SYNOPTIC NOTE ON STUDY OF QUALITY OF SERVICE ISSUES IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS

The future telecommunication networks aim to provide integrated services such as voice data and multimedia over wireless infrastructures. As the demand for multimedia services over air has been steadily increasing over the last few years, wireless networks have been a very active research area. To support various integrated services with a certain quality of service (QoS) in wireless networks some of the QoS issues should be addressed. Providing a QoS in wireless communications is more challenging due to the limited bandwidth resource, the highly variable environment and users mobility. To address this complex problem, QoS in wireless networks is considered at different levels as different issues. In the proposed research, it is planned to study the issue of QoS and address the same. The QoS issues are going to be considered are [1- 6] Error control coding Synchronization Routing Resource management and other issues in wireless communications.

Proposed plan is to study the recent source coding, channel coding and compression schemes and their performances and impact on the QoS. Time synchronization is a critical piece of infrastructure for any distributed system. Distributed, wireless networks make extensive use of synchronized time. Existing time synchronization methods need to be extended to meet new needs. It is planned to study the existing routing algorithms and their performances and the effective utilization of resources like band width in the network. Channel allocation is one of the fundamental problems faced by designers of the portable communication systems. One of the important resources is bandwidth; comparative study of lossless compression entropy coding techniques and also their impact on the efficient management of bandwidth in wireless networks is made and presented a paper in international conference [7]. As an initiation of PhD, work is done on Error controlling mechanisms using convolution coding and decoding and made a paper, which is selected for the presentation in International conference [8]. It is planned to work further on Viterbi algorithm and its performances. It is planned to continue research leading to doctorate on QoS issue in the wireless communications. In proposed research it is planned to use the Network Simulators, MATLAB, C and other programming for the simulation purpose.
