Eucharistic Celebration 07 August 2011 Introductory Rites

COMM : Dear brothers and sisters. Welcome to our Eucharistic celebration. Today is the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Our Mass Presider is Rev. Fr. _______. Please rise and sing the entrance hymn.

Greeting
Priest COMM Priest COMM : In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. : Amen. : The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. : And also with you.

Introduction
Priest : Dear brothers and sisters: The Lord is not an angry God whose justice must be appeased. Neither is he an indifferent God who is untouched by anything that happens. Rather, God is very close to his people. He is present amid life's storms, as Jesus shows in rescuing Peter. He reveals himself also in unobtrusive and gentle moments, as the prophet Elijah experiences on Mount Horeb. May we become a people ever convinced of God's presence in both the ordinary and the extraordinary moments of our life.

Penitential Rite
This may be skipped by the priest Priest COMM : As we prepare to celebrate the mystery of Christ's love, let us acknowledge our failures and askthe Lord for pardon and strength. (Pause) : I confess to Almighty God, and to you my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned through my own faults, in my thoughts, and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do so. And I ask the Blessed Mary, ever Virgin, all the angels and saints and to you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the Lord our God. : May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. : Amen.

Liturgy of the Word First Reading

COMM : How often do we expect to feel the presence of God in awesome, earthshaking occurrences? The prophet Elijah experiences God through a tiny whispering sound. God is present in the ordinary and extraordinary events of life.. The First Reading. : A reading from the first Book of Kings (19:9a, 11-13a) AT THE MOUNTAIN of God, Horeb, Elijah came to a cave where he took shelter. Then the Lord said to him, "Go outside and stand on the mountain 2|Page

before the Lord; the Lord will be passing by." A strong and heavy wind was rending the mountains and crushing rocks before the Lord - but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake-but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake there was fire-but the Lord was not in the fire. After the fire there was a tiny whispering sound. When he heard this, Elijah hid his face in his cloak and went and stood at the entrance of the cave. The word of the Lord. COMM : Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm
Reader COMM Reader Reader Reader : Let our response be: Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your salvation.... (Please repeat) : Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your salvation. : I will hear what God proclaims;/ the Lord-for he proclaims peace./ Near indeed is his salvation to those who fear him,/ glory dwelling in our land. : Kindness and truth shall meet;/ justice and peace shall kiss./ Truth shall spring out of the earth,/ and justice shall look down from heaven. : The Lord himself will give his benefits;/ our land shall yield its increase./ Justice shall walk before him,/ and salvation, along the way of his steps.

Second Reading
COMM : The apostle Paul shares the pain he feels for his people who fail to accept Jesus as the Messiah. And yet God remains faithful to his promise to Abraham and his descendants. In his own good time, God will bring the people of Israel to himself. The Second Reading. : A reading from the Letter of Paul to the Romans (9:1-5) BROTHERS AND SISTERS: I speak the truth in Christ, I do not lie; my conscience joins with the Holy Spirit in bearing me witness that I have great sorrow and constant anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my own people, my kindred according to the flesh. They are Israelites; theirs the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises; theirs the patriarchs, and from them, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen. The word of the Lord. COMM : Thanks be to God Please rise to honor the Holy Gospel.

: Alleluia, Alleluia (To Be Sung) : The Lord be with you! : And also with you! : A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew. : Glory to You, Lord : AFTER HE HAD FED the people, Jesus made the disciples get into a boat and precede him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. After doing so, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When it was evening he was there alone. Meanwhile the boat, already a few miles offshore, was being tossed about by the waves, for the wind was against it. During the fourth watch of the night, he came toward them walking on the sea. When the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified. "It is a ghost," they said, and they cried out in fear. At once Jesus spoke to them, 'Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid." Peter said to him in reply, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water." He said, "Come." Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw how strong the wind was he became frightened, and, beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!" Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught Peter, and said to him, "0 you of little faith, why did you doubt?" After they got into the boat, the wind died down. Those who were in the boar did him homage, saying, 'Truly, you are the Son of God." This is the Gospel of the Lord. : Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ! . Please be seated

Profession of Faith
COMM COMM : Please rise. (the Priest may also be the one to ask) : I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.!

Prayers of the Faithful

Priest : The Lord is "Emmanuel," God who is ever close to us. His help is there for us who call upon him. Confronted with life's burdens and uncertainties, we pray: Lord, come to the help of your people. (Please repeat) : Lord, come to the help of your people. : Lord Jesus, you came to your terrified disciples in their storm-battered boat. Strengthen the boat of your Church sailing amid persecution, violence, unbelief, and egoism. We pray: : Lord Jesus, you saved the sinking Peter. Enlighten the Pope, the bishops, priests, and deacons so that as they proclaim your message of love to the world, they may not be drowned by fear or discouragement. We pray: : Lord Jesus, your words today assured those who listen to you of your loving presence amid tragedies and trials. Help us to find comfort and consolation in your promise of eternal reward in the Gospel and in the sacraments. We pray: : Lord Jesus, you showed yourself as Lord of storm and sea. Guide our brothers and sisters living in superstition, the scientists studying the workings of nature, and the fishermen and wayfarers plying the seas. We pray: : Lord Jesus, you have gathered us together. Give us the faith to seek you in bad times and the gratitude to bless you in good times. We pray: : In silence, we offer our own personal prayers and intentions : Lord Jesus, in the face of life's difficulties we raise our hands to you as did the apostle Peter. Reach out to us, help our unbelief, and make us your true disciples. We ask this of you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. : Amen. Please be seated

Preface
Priest COMM Priest COMM Priest COMM Priest : The Lord be with you! : And also with you! : Lift up your hearts. : We lift them up to the Lord. : Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. : It is right to give Him thanks and praise. : Father, it is our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks. So great was your love that you gave us your Son as our redeemer. You sent him as one like ourselves, though free from sin, that you might see and love in us what you see and love in Christ. Your gifts of grace, lost by disobedience, are now restored by the obedience of your Son. We praise you, Lord, with all the angels and saints in their song of joy: : Holy, Holy (To Be Sung) : Please kneel.

Eucharistic Prayer II

Priest

: Lord, You are Holy indeed, the fountain of all holiness. Let Your Spirit come upon these gifts to make them holy so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Before He was given up to death, the death He freely accepted, He took the bread and give You thanks. He broke the bread, gave it to His disciples and said: TAKE THIS ALL OF YOU AND EAT IT. THIS IS MY BODY WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU. When supper was ended, He took the cup. Again, He gave You thanks and praise, gave the cup to His disciples and said: TAKE THIS ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT. THIS IS THE CUP OF MY BLOOD. THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND EVERLASTING COVENANT. IT WILL BE SHED FOR YOU AND FOR ALL MEN SO THAT SINS MAY BE FORGIVEN. DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

Priest Choir Priest

: Let us proclaim the Mystery of Faith. : Christ has died, Christ has risen, and Christ will come again. (to be sung) : In memory of His death and resurrection, we offer You, Father, this lifegiving bread, this saving cup. We thank You for counting us worthy to stand in Your presence and serve You. May all of us who share in the Body and Blood of Christ, be brought together in unity by the Holy Spirit. Lord, remember Your Church throughout the world, make us grow in love together with Benedict XVI, our Pope, Chito, our bishop and all our clergy. Remember our brothers and sisters who have gone to their rest in the hope of rising again. Bring them and all the departed into the light of Your presence. Have mercy on us all. Make us worthy to share eternal life with Mary, the Virgin Mother of God, with the Apostles and with all the Saints who have done Your will throughput the ages. May we praise You in union with them and give You glory through Your Son, Jesus Christ.
