WORLD YOUTH DAY 2011: From Madrid to Manila An Overnight Youth Vigil Kabataang Pilipino, Nakaugat kay Kristo

Madrid Theme: Planted and built up in Jesus Christ, rm in the faith Schedule: 20- 21 August, Saturday & Sunday Venue: Ateneo de Manila University Grounds Rationale: The bi-annual World Youth Day celebrations instituted by the late Pope John Paul II are meant to be participated in by all the Catholic youth the world over. The affair is usually among the highlights of the Popes calendar and it is here that he is able to address the youth. And so the gaps between Church tradition (as represented by the Pope) and the youth, on the one hand, and Rome and the world, on the other hand, are effectively overcome. Sadly however, travel cost alone to WYD sites has been beyond the capacities of young people; thus, only a few are able to attend celebrations. Ironically, even from the Philippines where WYD 1995 drew in a record 5 million people, only a thousand are able to go. Mechanics: With a few modications, the local celebrations will basically follow the three-part design of the WYD in Madrid: 1. Youth Festivals composed of concerts, exhibits and other cultural shows. 2. Catechesis Sessions composed of Lectures by Bishops or other resource persons. 3. Liturgical celebrations composed of the Mass and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. More importantly our local celebration will hew closely to the schedule of the concluding weekend of WYD Madrid. And so given these considerations, the following can be the possible schedule of our weekend:
