In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful

English Transliteration

[002.041… Waaminoo bima anzaltu musaddiqan lima maAAakum wala takoonoo

awwala kafirin bihi wala tashtaroo bi-ayatee thamanan qaleelan wa-iyyaya faittaqooni]

Translation

[002.041… And believe in what I reveal, confirming the revelation which is with you,
and be not the first to reject Faith therein, nor sell My Signs for a small price; and fear
Me, and Me alone]

Exegeses
Waaminoo (and believe) bima (in what) anzaltu (I have sent down) musaddiqan
(confirming) lima (that which) maAAakum (is with you) Wala (and do not) takoonoo
(be) awwala (first) kafirin (disbeliever) bihi (in it) wala (and do not) tashtaroo (buy) bi-
ayatee (with My Verses) thamanan (price) qaleelan (small) wa-iyyaya (and Me alone)
faittaqooni (fear)

Allah is addressing the Israelites and asking them three things. The first thing is that they
should make sure that they fulfill the covenant of Allah. And in return they would be
given place and status in the heaven. Other thing Allah is saying that they should firmly
believe in what Allah revealed. It means that they should give credence to the message
and commandments what Allah sent to them through His prophet. And there should not
be any doubt in this regard. It should be clear in all aspects. They knew that Allah would
send them a prophet. All the previous prophets had told the nations and others that a lost
prophet Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) would come with the last and
complete book of life code. The Israelites were waiting the last prophet. But the
intellectual problem was with them that they were under the impression that the prophet
would come from their tribe, from the Jews. Because they had the description and signs
of the last prophet in their books.
The time came that the last prophet came. This prophet was Muhammad (Salla
'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam). It was quite shocking to them that the last prophet was from
Arab not from Jews. It was the main reason that they turned from Muhammad (Salla
'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and they rejected him. In point of fact they were expecting that
alpha and omega prophet would be from their race – the Jews. Actually the Israelites
were the teachers of Arabs. And the Arabs were in low stature in their eyes. So it was a
disgrace to them to accept and welcome the prophet from Arab. They knew the last
prophet in an exact way as they knew their own children. But the problem was only that
Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) was not from Jews but from Arab.
That’s why the holy Quran is saying that you must believe in what the revelations
I sent, and you should not be the first ones who disbelieved. In very clear words Allah
told them. And one more point is that the holy Quran had come to support what the
prophets were given in the forms of parchments. They would spread the message of
Allah. And the final message of Allah is in the holy Quran. So, Muhammad (Salla
'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) had come also to support the teachings of the prophets. The
former divine books and parchments given to the earlier prophets were argumentatively
supported by Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam). And the earlier heavenly
parchments revealed on the previous prophets had clear mention of the signs and
descriptions of the last prophet - Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam). In the
Bible it is mentioned that last prophet would come. And the parchments also told the
name of the prophet – Ahmad. Why the signs and descriptions were given in the earlier
books, so that the prophet may be recognized easily. Before sending the last prophet a
sound foundation was laid by Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. That’s why Allah is saying
that believe in firmly what I revealed. And don’t be the first person to deny the holy
truth. Because you do have the introduction of the last prophet. You do have sound
proof, which was given in your books and holy parchments. Allah is giving very sound
logical proof. Further Allah is saying that do not sell my verses my signs my messages
for the meager price.
Actually here is very delicate indication to the phenomenon that some people sell
the verses or use the verses in order to get money. Keeping in view this phenomenon
Allah is saying that do not sell the verses of it. There is light and message for us in it. It
is not a piece of merchandise. Allah says he who fears Allah, he would be not in any

problem of need. His all needs would be met out. He would be provided the sustenance
by the Law of Providence. This is the promise of Allah with us.
There are a lot of examples. We can read the story of Mary. When she gave
herself to Allah, and once the prophet Zakeria came into the masjid. He saw food in
abundance. He asked Mary where from the food came? She replied it was all from her
Allah. Subhan Allah (all glory to Allah). When you do Taqwa you get different things
and blessings from your kind and beneficent Allah. That’s why Allah says that fear no
one but Me. Allah says (I will write its
translation)-----Allah is calling the Jews and at the same time calling all of us too.
come from the word and it means to
wear. And the holy Quran has used the same thing here saying
It is in order to tell us that do not cover the truth with
falsehood. Don’t be among the people who see the truth but they bring the falsehood and
cover the truth. And in such a way the truth will not appear. And the holy Quran says
and there on the same time trying to hide the truth and
then He says that do not try to hide the truth .
Sometimes a man may hide a truth because he does not know what the truth is but the
Quran is talking to a man who know that this is the truth. And tries to hide it. And to
turn and change the truth into the falsehood so that the people get the impression that it is
the real truth. But Islam lays emphasis on the point that if a man is ignorant; there is no
punishment for him. But if somebody knows the truth and deliberately turns it in to
falsehood, there are torments for him in the hell. There is one hadith
tell the truth even it is against you.

and do not ever

try to hide the truth or try to mix the truth with the falsehood even if it is against your
interest.
I would like to shed light on the phenomenon that why truth is important.
Heavenly bodies, light coming from them, gravitational fields of the planets, the light of
the moons taken directly from the suns, pulsars, black holes, forests, rains, volcanoes, its
lava, rivers and seas together with oceans, trees, shrubs and their leaves with fruits, desert
with sands, mountains with clouds, birds, animals, insects, and the life under the seas
from thousands of years – are all being manipulated, in order to grant life /death, by the
powers responsible to run the universe and its affairs with the most perfect execution
without slightest possible error. So that, the human life and other affairs of the universe
may get perfectly right results of their maneuvers. The system going on for all of them is
‘the truth’. If the truth became inefficient, every move of the universe would not bring
the results of the positivity.
So likewise, our life also demands the truth. Either we are in a contract, in a war,
in a peace treaty, in preaching, in making others understand, in the process of
understanding, whatever the affair of the life may be – we have to cling firmly to the

truth. This is the reason the holy Quran lays extra ordinary emphasis on the truth. Since,
the truth is the progress making life, whereas the falsehood is prone to collapse,
deterioration, debacle, and ultimately the death.
Now we proceed to the establishment of salat and zakat in our practical society.
Allah says establish salat. The very first thing Allah
mentions in the holy Quran is the salat. Without it the mansion of the Islam can not be
erected. It means that we should follow the systems of the holy Quran with firm
intention. Because that is the truth. The holy system of the holy Quran gives us the
guarantee for the life full of achievements and pleasantries in our life here and in
hereafter. If we establish salat, we are actually establishing the system of the Quran – a
complete code of life for the brightest possible future free from any fear or fright of any
power. And in this system there is only one phenomenon, the survival of you and others
with progress in life without any destruction. So we should establish salat. In
establishing the salat, time factor is very important. Every move of the holy Quran
should be made on time. And when the sweet fruits of the pure system and the pure salat
will produce in our lives and in our societies then the nonbelievers would also come to us
and recite and understand the holy Quran. With this our hearts would have a cemented
connection with Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. To establish salat is not an individual or
personal type of activity. It is a collective joint effort. It is a chain and link of the human
efforts connected with the endeavors of other human efforts. With this truth the fruits
would come out visible and sweet in its taste. Subhan Allah (all glory to Allah). Then
doing all this truth the results of Islam and its salat would also go to other nations across
the borders of us. Dear readers please put every ounce of your efforts in establishing the
system of salat in your surroundings.
After is zakat is also very important. It is a fund allocated for the poor. For the
people who need money in order to run their lives. Muslim societies should set aside the
funds in the form of the zakat. After all life needs money. Imam Ali (AS) said
if you see a poor person help him. If in your societies
people are hungry it means there is no justice. You are directly responsible for it.
Establish a system of truth that is salat, and zakat. And after it the holy Quran says
bow down to worship Allah with those who do the
same. It means that the people who establish the system of the holy Quran for the justice
in the society practically, we should joint them without waste of any further moment.
Because there is the matter of the progress and survival, and to fulfill the purpose of the
birth, and this universe according to the divine design. We should consume our all wills
and skills and strength in order to please Allah. And Allah would be pleased if we
maintain and establish a practical society based on salat and zakat.
The infallible, the Ahlul Bayt, the holy twelve Imams – all acted upon the salat
and zakat. May Allah give us strength to establish salat and zakat.
