MagicGlobe Solar Light Sphere: This design is an example of the trend in modern spherical lighting The light includes an inbuilt solar module They are waterproof and can float in water or be placed on a table

Concept Development

The concept development phase focused on: Firstly noting and sketching ideas into the types of features needed in the outdoor light Secondly sketching different geometrical and organic forms to achieve the right type of lighitng affect In the later stages focusing on spherical shapes as to allow for the 360 degree rotation of the light cover This would also keep the light stable when used in windy conditions For the light source I found OLED technology to be most suitable Solar panels were also introduced in the final stages

Packaging Product Outline

The lights will be packed in recycled cardboard tubes for distribution The lights will be packed in sets of 3 for cafes and in sets of 2 for the public Cardboard spacers will seperate the lights and keep them protected from damage

Eco-design strategy

The most appropriate environmental design strategies for the BAPP Light had to be chosen For example, the design of the BAPP Light incorporated: 1.1 Design for resource conservation - using the minimum amount of material required for the function for the light - recyclable materials, such as the choice of using thermoplastic elastomer 1.6 Design for minimal consumption - Components have been designed for re-use, remanufacture or recycling - Clear instructions have been provided to consumers on use, re-use, re-manufacture, recycling and disposal

Eco-design strategy

Greenfly Assesment Global Warming: Transport of the raw materials for manufacturing and production, accounted for the largest contribution to global warming. Energy Demand: Transportation of the product consumed the greatest amount of energy, which can be attributed to fuel requirements, distance travelled and the like.
