Low Power 300/sec Digital Gyroscope with 0.03/sec/g Sensitivity Offers Vibration Immunity Even in Harsh Environments
As adoption of motion sensing technology makes its way into industrial, instrumentation, and healthcare applications, the need for higher performance and tighter specification increases. Inertial sensor technology that offers accurate, stable readings and high vibration and shock resistance, even under harsh environments, is critical for many designs. In addition, designers seek technology that is easy to use and supports an accelerated implementation.

Solution
The iMEMS ADXRS450 is a low power, 300/sec, digital output gyroscope (angular rate sensor) that addresses the growing demand for highly accurate and stable vibration and shock resistance. The device features an advanced differential quad-sensor design, which rejects the influence of linear acceleration over a wide frequency range, enabling it to operate in exceedingly harsh environments. With sensitivity to linear acceleration specified at only 0.03/second/g, it is a highly stable, vibration immune MEMS gyro able to operate within exceedingly harsh environments where shock and vibration are present. To support ease of use, data is output through a digital serial port interface (SPI) and a built-in temperature sensor self-regulates the device. An SMT-compatible vertical mount package option enables accurate sensing of either axis on the same plane of the PC board (pitch or roll), while the SOIC package configuration is for applications that require a Z-axis (yaw) rate sensing device. The ADXRS450 features internal temperature compensation over the extended industrial range of 40C to +105C. ADXRS450 Features Complete rate gyroscope on a single chip 0.03/second/g sensitivity to linear acceleration 0.020/second/Hz noise rate density 6 mA power consumption (typical) 25/hour null offset stability 2000 g powered shock survivability Internal temperature compensation SPI digital output with 16-bit data word Operating range: 3.3 V and 5 V

ADIS16209 iSensor Digital Inclinometer

Solution
A combination of MEMS linear and rotational sensing is often used as part of a feedback loop in platform stabilization applications. MEMS technology offers the advantages of small size, low power, and wide bandwidth supporting more options in sensor placement, as well as faster response times. The ADIS16209 is a high accuracy, digital inclinometer that accommodates both single-axis (180) and dual-axis (90) operation. This device best supports relatively static systems and provides dual-axis angle accuracy of 0.1. The standard supply voltage (3.3 V) and serial peripheral interface (SPI) enable simple integration into most industrial system designs. The autonull feature simplifies in-system alignment to the platform critical axis. The ADIS16265 is a wide bandwidth, programmable gyroscopic sensor. When used in conjunction with the ADIS16209, it supports more complex motion requirements combining angle and tilt. Once power is applied, the ADIS16265 automatically starts up and begins sampling sensor data, without requiring configuration commands from a system processor. An addressable register structure and a common SPI provide simple access to the sensor data and configuration settings. For the most complex motion, the ADIS1636x family of inertial measurement units (IMUs) combines the advantages of the ADIS16265 and ADIS16209 into multiple axis, multiple sensor solutions. ADIS16209 Features Angle accuracy: 0.1 Acceleration or angle outputs, SPI Horizontal (2-axis) and vertical (1-axis) mount options Temperature range: 40C to +125C Autonull Configurable digital filtering and alarms ADIS16265 Features Configurable dynamic range: 320/second, 160/second, 80/second Sensitivity tempco: 25 ppm/C Angular random walk: 2/hr Bandwidth: 330 Hz Temperature range: 40C to +85C Configurable digital filtering and alarms Start-up time: 165 ms (2.5 ms from sleep)

Simplify Embedded Shock and Vibration Sensing for Equipment Maintenance and Monitoring
Subtle and excessive vibration and shock detection can lower maintenance costs by helping to improve performance monitoring of industrial equipment including safety events. The sensing device must be properly calibrated and tuned, power efficient, and of small profile so that it can be embedded close to the actual motion source for accurate capture of an event. In addition to sensing and measuring the signal, data is ideally processed locally and stored for either offline or real-time analysis.

Solution
The iSensor ADIS16220/ADIS16223/ADIS16240/ADIS16204 family of integrated, low power, MEMS-based sensors can be adapted easily to a wide range of vibration or shock scenarios where the sensing, measuring, processing, and storing of the signal data offers the potential for performance or safety enhancements of industrial machinery as well as predictive maintenance. The ADIS16220 (1-axis) and ADIS16223 (3-axis) offer an embedded programmable controller and support peak sample-and-hold, capture trigger setting, internal filtering, and power management configurations. The controller simplifies the tuning of the device to support a specific application. Data capture functional Block Diagram is configurable to be user-, timer-, or eventinitiated, offering complete flexibility in meeting DIO1 DIO2 RST VDD either minimum power requirements or realtime notification of system problems. MANAGEMENT

The ADIS16240 and ADIS16204 support user-programmed shock thresholds and hold pre- and post-event data along with time-stamp, temperature, and voltage, while consuming less than 1 mA in continuous sampling mode. These functions make it ideal for portable or battery-powered applications.

Thermocouple Amplifiers Simplify Design with Integrated Cold Junction Compensation and Highly Accurate Temperature Output
The AD8494 and AD8495 are easy to use amplifiers for J and K type thermocouples. These amplifiers convert the small voltage generated by a thermocouple junction into a 5 mV/C signal that can easily be read by an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) or microcontroller. These devices perform cold junction compensation using an on-board temperature sensor with accurate measurements over a wide range of ambient (junction) temperatures. High common-mode rejection (0.1C/V) allows the AD849x to reject common-mode noise sometimes associated with long lead thermocouples. The AD849x operates off a wide variety of supply voltages from single 2.7 V to 18 V. In single supply operation the AD849x can directly interface to lower supply ADCs, while higher dual supply voltages can be used for industrial systems that require a wide common-mode input range. With a single 5 V supply, the AD849x can cover nearly 1000 of a thermocouples temperature range. A reference pin allows for level shifting of the 0C output so that negative temperatures can easily be measured, even on a single supply. AD8494/AD8495 Features Output voltage: 5 mV/C Rail-to-rail output swing Supply range: +2.7 V to 18 V High gain accuracy: 0.1% Low power: 180 A quiescent supply current High common-mode rejection: 0.1C/V Operation up to 125C

IMUs Offer Accuracy and Ease of Implementation for Complex Inertial Sensing Applications
Accurately sensing motion on three axes for such inertial sensing applications as industrial navigation or platform stabilization control requires tight tolerance over temperature drift, vibration influence, sensitivity variance, and mechanical alignment.

Solution
ADIs high performance iSensor IMUs deliver the integration of hundreds of components, complex signal processing, and multiaxis, multisensor calibration for four, six, and nine degrees of freedom sensing. The ADIS1636x and ADIS1640x families all integrate three axes of both linear and rotational sensors, with options for magnetometers. Cross-axis sensor alignment is held to 0.05, and factory calibration provides a tempco of 40 ppm/C for sensor sensitivity. Gyro dynamic range options of up to 1200 per second are available, and accelerometer dynamic range options vary from 1.7 g to 18 g. A sensor bandwidth of 330 Hz, along with programmable internal digital filtering, supports high accuracy and application optimization.
