NTT DOCOMO, INC. is the world's leading mobile communications company with over 57 million customers in January 2011. Of these, 55 million subscribe to FOMA, launched as the world's first 3G mobile service based on the W-CDMA mobile standard in 2001. DOCOMO offers a wide variety of leading-edge mobile-multimedia services, including i-mode, the world's most popular mobile e-mail/Internet platform, used by 48 million people. With the addition of credit-card and other mobile-wallet functions, DOCOMOs handset has become highly versatile tools for daily life. Ryuji Yamada assumed the posts of NTT DOCOMO, INC. President and CEO in June 2008, crowning a distinguished 35-year career with both DOCOMO and its parent company, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT). Mr. Yamada is a principal architect of the NTT Groups strategic longterm transition from fixed voice services to IP and related services, including mobile communications.
