New FlipFactory 7.0 Features / Enhancements:

Items marked with (*) indicate that this feature affects a licensed option. Check with Telestream if you are unsure whether your license includes the specified feature.

General

New! ITU-BS1770 Loudness Detection and Correction* This new feature allows the user to detect and correct audio loudness in up to 6 channels as part of a FlipFactory workflow. Please see the Measuring & Adjusting ITU-R BS.1770 Loudness Application Note available on the Telestream support site. This is a chargeable option. New! Stitching Feature FlipFactory now provides the user an easy way to submit a job with multiple input files to a factory to produce a single output file effectively stitching them together. The user has the ability to review each clip and select mark-in and mark-out points, creating a list of media segments which can be stitched together and output in a completely different format, all in a single job. Please refer to the Using File Stitching Application Note, available on the Telestream support site. New! SCC File Generation FlipFactory can now generate SCC caption files. This enables workflows where the user can extract CC from a file, insert them into an SCC file, modify them (e.g. remove objectionable content, add DDR data) and resubmit the SCC files so that captions can be reinserted. New! YouTube Fingerprinting* Added support for YouTube Fingerprinting while transcoding. Please contact Telestream for details. You must have a contract with YouTube to access this feature. New! Decode Dolby AC3 Customers may decode Dolby AC3 by installing the appropriate freeware available at http://sourceforge.net/projects/ac3filter/ Note: A Dolby royalty fee may be associated with this. New! Audio Filter A new filter has been added called Audio New Channel Content. This audio filter allows you to insert silent audio into additional output audio channels. FactoryArray* Significant improvements have been made to the load balancing mechanism for FactoryArray. Jobs submitted to the array, either manually or through a monitor, are processed on the first FlipFactory server with an open slot in its incoming queue. Subsequent jobs are processed on the FlipFactory server with the next open slot, thus preventing one server from having multiple jobs to process while other servers are idle. Please see FactoryArray datasheet for more details. Encoder Optimizations Speed improvements when writing to network stores for Avid TransferManager, the DVD Encoder, and the Liquid Encoder.

FlipFactory 7.0 Known Issues

ClipMail workflows will not work if the receiving FlipFactory is part of an Array. ClipMail must send to a specific factory. Uninstalling the console application after uninstalling FlipFactory will cause an error. Please follow this procedure if you need to uninstall the console. Follow the steps outlined in Appendix B, Uninstalling FlipFactory, in the Users Guide. If you have Update Pack 3 installed for FlipFactory 6.1, you will get an error saying a component (DV2Reader.ax) cannot be unregistered when uninstalling FlipFactory 6.1. Please click OK on the message box, and continue. The Update Pack 3 install had already removed that component. MEF files are no longer supported. MPEG1 System Streams do not function properly. OMF encoder cannot create NuVista files. The DVCPRO HD MXF encoder has issues with file duration. QuickTime Streaming Decoder cannot decode certain files. Decoding Flash9 Main and High profile adds a black frame to the beginning of the clip. MPEG2 I frame only Program Stream outputs exhibit macroblocking. Cannot create 3gp files with the Advanced 3Gp encoder that are playable in the iPhone. Files created in K2 and flipped to other formats may have some color issues. We recommend that you not upgrade to version 7.0 if you use FlipFactory to decode K2 files. This issue will be corrected in Update Pack 1 for 7.0. Files created in Avid TransferManager in the DNxHD 50 format do not always work properly. We recommend that you not upgrade to version 7.0 if you use FlipFactory to create Avid TransferManager DNxHD 50 files. Pipeline Do not use the ProRes product when using Pipeline in conjunction with FlipFactory The Pipeline Publish Plugin in the Pipeline Control application cannot use Bonjour to discover FlipFactories available for transcoding. The UNC path for each FlipFactory must be manually entered. Please see the FlipFactory Publisher section in Chapter 6 in the Pipeline Users Guide for Windows, or Chapter 7 in the Pipeline Users Guide for Mac. Do not submit multiple files to multiple products using a manual submit of a closed TIFO file. Do not use the stream option within FlipFactory as a source for a manual submit. If you need to use the EDL Monitor, you must enable the Bonjour registration in System Settings in the Console application and restart the FlipEngine service. If the EDL Monitor plays a critical role in your workflow, we recommend that you do not upgrade to FlipFactory 7.0.

Upgrade Installation Tips Important Notice: It is always advisable to run a separate copy of any new build, staging your production workflow in a test environment, before updating your FlipFactory production server. Telestream can provide you with a limited license in order to configure and qualify this new release in a test environment prior to upgrading your production server. For details on how to replicate your FlipFactory Accounts database onto a test/qualification server please reference Importing and Exporting Accounts, in Chapter 10, Database Implementations & Operations, in the FlipFactory Users Guide or contact Telestream Support (support@telestream.net or call our technical support team at 877-257-6245 in North America or 1 530-470-1336 outside of North America).
If you are uninstalling FlipFactory 4.0 or 4.1 from a Windows 2000 server please contact Telestream support for instructions. Note: When you first launch the FlipFactory console, you may be asked to re-install QuickTime. This occasionally happens when the Java components for QuickTime are incorrectly installed. To remove this warning, simply un-install QuickTime, and then re-install QuickTime.

Upgrading from Previous Versions (v2.0 or later)

NOTE: If you are upgrading from a FlipFactory version prior to v3.0.12234, a new license file is required. To request a new license, send an email with your old license attached to: license@telestream.net For complete upgrade instructions please refer to the FlipFactory Version 7.0 User's Guide, Chapter 2, Installing FlipFactory, Upgrading from Earlier Versions, on page 2-5. Automatic Factory Upgrades You can enable Automatic Factory Upgrades, to revise all factories and accounts to the latest version of FlipFactory. This feature eliminates the requirement to manually re-build factories when performing an upgrade. This automatic upgrade option adds new options to all monitors, notifications, and codecs in each factory. To enable automatic factory upgrades, check Automatic Database Upgrades under Advanced Settings in the FlipFactory System Settings window, and then restart the FlipEngine Service. All accounts and factories in the database will automatically be upgraded when the FlipEngine service starts. When Automatic Database Upgrades is enabled, any factories imported using the Import command will also be upgraded automatically. If this option is used, it may take several minutes to upgrade the accounts and during that time, you may not be able to connect to FlipFactory. If you use stylesheets for metadata processing or other workflows, and have modified the default XML templates, to preserve your settings, make a copy of each modified stylesheet and change its name to something unique to your environment. Then, restart the FlipFactory service and select the newly named stylesheet in the factory where it is used. FlipFactory will not overwrite uniquely-named stylesheets during an installation. IPTV and VOD codecs do not upgrade correctly if the factories were made in versions of FlipFactory prior to 6.1. If your factories use these products, please note your settings before automatically upgrading your factories. You may be required to re-create these products within your factories manually. Please uninstall any QuickTime versions present on your FlipFactory server and install QuickTime 7.6.2 following the upgrade or installation instructions. NOTE: Telestream strongly recommends that you back up all your factories before using this feature. After using this tool please review all settings to confirm that the factories were correctly upgraded. Some products may need to be recreated by hand.
