ATEIS PAVA Equipment

Battery Calculation
Introduction
The Spreadsheet is used to calculate the size of battery back-up required for a Voice Alarm system based on Annex C of BS5839 Pt.8:1998.

Color Codes
Rose Fields: for the user to input data on specific system. Violet fields: global parameters which may be adjusted. Blue Fields: Automatically calculated parameters do not overtype.

ATEIS PAVA Alternative Configurations

Two configuration alternatives supported by ATEIS:
1) Regular:

By using IDA4M/XM and IDA4Ms/XMs combination, each speaker line would be powered by a dedicated Power Amplifier. However, Class AB could be implemented by adding IDA4SU which linked each pair of speaker line into one amplifier that would not influence the total power.
2) Switching:

By using IDA4SW and IDA4SWs combination, each group of eight speaker lines would be powered either by one amplifier (Mono Mode) or two amplifiers (Dual Mode). In case of Dual Mode, each two amplifiers share the total load of the eight speaker lines resulting the considered amplifier wattage is as to be from one amplifiers rather being two. That is mean the total load wattage is divided by two.

Instructions
Equipment Schedule
The quantity of Audio Controllers, Microphones, Amplifiersetc. is simply typed into the appropriate fields. Typing a number in the Quantity filed of IDA4M/XM and/or IDA4Ms/XMs will consider a Regular configuration. In this case, the MODE might be either Normal or Class AB. If the Quantity of IDA4SUzz is greater than Zero, a Class AB MODE is going to be considered. Typing a number in the Quantity filed of IDA4SW and/or IDA4SWs will consider a Regular configuration. In this case, the MODE might be either Mono or Dual that could be selected from a Drop-down combo box. If Dual mode is selected, the L: Total Loudspeaker Load would be divided by two. If battery calculations wanted to be done for power amplifiers or equipments rather than Audio controllers, Switching check box would be available when there is zero quantity in the field of audio controllers. If Switching check box is checked a drop-down list will appear to select Mono or Dual mode. To reset the Quantity field, click on Reset button.

Backup amplifier wattage is not considered in the Total Loudspeaker Load because it will swap the faulty amplifier.

Quiescent Current
The total quiescent current I2: Total standby current is then calculated. Value of Quiescent current is not affected by load or MODE since it is the No-Load current. The quiescent current sum up of others equipments not listed in the table would be typed in the Others row.

Total Wattage
In BS5839 P.8 Annex.C formula, Total Wattage is considered to be Amplifier full load instead of being actual Speaker Load. For example, amplifier of 480W may be considered to supply a 300W circuit that mean there is 180W extra wattage will be considered by BS formula. To get more accurate ratings Actual AMP Load Percentage parameter is available to set manually total percentage of amplifiers utilized wattage.

When there is no information about speaker circuit wattages a 100% should considered for this parameter that indicates amplifiers are fully loaded.

Battery Calculation
The battery size is calculated on the following parameters, realistic real world defaults are entered as below, with notes. The values can be edited to suit the specific system.
Parameter Standby period Full Load (broadcast) Period Battery De-rating factor for standby Battery De-rating factor for full load Total Message Cycle (Secs) Duration of message tone (Secs) Duration Of Speech (Secs) Value 24h 0.5h 1 1.75 56 4 52 Notes Typical for BS5839 VA Typical for BS5839 VA To be adjusted with value provided by battery manufacturer These figures are generous and assume continuous tone/voice with no silences. Can be adjusted if exact message cycle is known and fixed.
