Internship Report Guidelines

At the completion of your internship program, you are required to submit a report detailing your work experience, indicating the type of work undertaken and how the internship related to the degree in International Hospitality Management you are pursuing. Your internship report should describe the establishment as well as the various activities of tasks accomplished during the internship. Your report should explain to your reader what you learned and experienced. Please use the report as the basis for a personal evaluation of your internship. Your internship report needs to follow these layout guidelines in order to be accepted: font: Arial (10 points) or Times New Roman (12 points) line spacing: 1.5 lines top and bottom margins: 1 inch/ 2,5 cm; left and right margins: 1,25 inches/ 3 cm page numbers (starting on the first text page): centred in the footer

The first page of your internship report is a cover page stating the following information (a sample cover page shall be made available to you): First and family name Major Class of 200x Training establishments name, city, country Type of hospitality organization Department Supervisors name and position Internship dates (from/to) The report itself should consist of four to six pages of text. Please consider using sub-headlines in order to enable your reader to follow your thoughts easily. All pieces of information given will be for Enderun Colleges in-house use and will not be made available to outside readers. Please include photographs taken during your work hours. The following questions are meant to guide you as you write your report. You are encouraged to add other points that you feel are of significance.

1. The establishment: What kind of organization did you choose (commercial hotel, airport hotel, conference center, suite hotel, residential hotel, boutique hotel, casino hotels, resort hotels, restaurants, bar, country club)? Give details about the establishment Why did you choose this property? What is the establishments mission/ vision? What values does this establishment exercise/ instill in its employees? What does the establishment offer that is different from other establishments? What makes it a unique hospitality establishment? Who are the target customers/clients? How many employees are working at the organization you worked in? What kind of organizational structure does the hotel have? What is the competitive environment?

2. The internship position: How did you find this internship (offerings seminar, networking, web portal, ads, on the net, etc)? For which department were you working? Did you work for one department or were you assigned to several departments? What were your daily, weekly, monthly tasks? Tell us about any events or team activities you were involved in. To what extent were you involved in your colleagues daily routine? Were you able to train directly under the supervisor? What did you learn from your supervisor? How were you able to apply your learning in class to the specific work you were involved in? How did this experience develop your hospitality skills? What did this work experience teach you about the local culture? From your experience, explain why a career in hospitality is an international field of work

3. Difficulties and Problems: Did you have any problems or difficulties that you had to solve? How did you do that? What hospitality skills did you apply in direct relation to any problems you encountered? Identify areas of the department where you feel improvements were necessary. From the above, select one major concern you encountered and provide a solution on this concern

4. Work Environment: How did you like the working atmosphere? What was it like to work for this company? Did you feel welcome and well taken care of? How were the relationships with your colleagues and your supervisor? What values would you encourage to improve the work environment, if any? Why?

5. Lessons learned: How did the internship relate to your major concentration? What was especially interesting or memorable? What was good or bad about your experiences? Why? What are your conclusions concerning your hospitality studies and/or your future career? Was your academic knowledge sufficient for the internship? (Were you overqualified? What kind of knowledge did you lack?) Did this experience help you decide which area of the hotel or restaurant you would like to concentrate on for your future career? What was the most important thing you learned from this internship in relation to the career you wish to pursue?

Please follow the format and content guidelines and save your internship report as a .pdf document as follows: Internship_last name_first name Send it to the Office of Career Development (ana.tuason@enderuncolleges) via e-mail by Wednesday, April 2 2008. Give a hard copy to the Career Development Office not later than Thursday, 3 April 2008. Failure to submit your report on time translates to an INC grade for Internship. The Career Development Office will check your report and let you know it has been approved. Should your report not be approved, you will be asked to review it. When all requirements (internship report and evaluation form completed by the establishment) have been submitted to the Career Development Office, the Registrar will be informed that you fulfilled Enderun Colleges Internship Requirement and the internship grade will appear on your final transcript.
