Google Mail Advantages & Disadvantages. 1. Advantages in term of mails. ! !

2GB Mail Box our current mail system allow100mb for faculty members & 50mb for other users. Spam control as our 50% + mails are spam mails, which are of no use. Separate folder for spam mails, if we opt for sub domain concept, mails comes to our gateway after spam control. Support for IMAP protocols, we currently support only pop3. Mails with threaded conversations for reference, which make easy to access only required mail and also will reduce contains of mail too. As per current system mail size become quite big because it contains earlier reference mail contain.

Online quick contacts & talk facility, it can be used as messenger too. Built in Calendar - with Google Calendar, sharing events and meetings with others is simple. No disadvantages but issues to be consider. 1. All facilities becomes internet (web) based; require enough bandwidth for smooth operation. If opted for a mail gateway at our end (CC,IIMA) it require 24x7 support & maintenance too. Data will be under google control (Security issue we have to trust google). Domain issue domain may change form iimahd.ernet.in to iimahd.edu Nothing is free in long term so cost issue is also important
