Nursing considerations Administer with food or milk to minimize GI irritation. Tablets may be crushed for patients with difficulty swallowing. Instruct patient to take medication exactly as directed evenly spaced times between dose, even if feeling better. Do not skip doses or double up on missed doses. If a dose is missed, take as soon as remembered if not almost time for next dose. May cause dizziness or lightheadedness. Caution patient or other activities requiring alertness until response to medication is known. Inform patient that medication may cause an unpleasant metallic taste. Inform patient that medication may cause urine to turn dark.

Ventolin inhalation 2.5 mg 3-4 times/day nebulization, delivered over 5 to 15 minutes.

Relaxes smooth muscles by stimulating beta2-receptors, thereby causing bronchodilation and vasodilation

To prevent and relieve bronchospasm in patients with reversible obstructive airway disease

CNS: dizziness, excitement, headache, hyperactivity, insomnia CV: hypertension, palpitations, tachycardia, chest pain EENT: conjunctivitis, dry and irritated throat, pharyngitis GI: nausea, vomiting, anorexia, heartburn, GI distress, dry mouth Musculoskeletal: muscle cramps Respiratory: cough, dyspnea, wheezing, paradoxical bronchospasm Skin: pallor, urticaria, rash, angioedema, flushing, sweating

Do not exceed recommended dosage; adverse effects or loss of effectiveness may result. Read the instructions that come with respiratory inhalant. Maintain a beta-adrenergic blocker (cardioselective beta-blocker, such as atenolol, should be used with respiratory distress) on standby in case cardiac arrhythmias occur. Prepare solution for inhalation by diluting 0.5 mL 0.5% solution with 2.5 mL normal saline; deliver over 5 15 min by nebulization. Do not exceed recommended dosage; administer pressurized inhalation drug forms during second half of inspiration, because the airways are open wider and the aerosol distribution is more extensive. Do not exceed recommended dosage; adverse effects or loss of effectiveness may result. Read the instructions that come with respiratory inhalant. These side effects may occur: Dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, headache (use caution if driving or performing tasks that require alertness); nausea, vomiting, change in taste (eat small, frequent meals); rapid heart rate, anxiety, sweating, flushing, insomnia.

Piracetam Nootropil 1.2 gms BID

Neuromuscular agent

Piracetam acts selectively upon telencephalon by improving its associative function. It increases the energy output of the brain cell and activates its neurophysiological potentialities, especially in deficit conditions. Nootropil is virtually nontoxic and has no stimulating, sedative or neurovegetative activities.

Cerebral insufficiency and chronic manifestation of CVA

Monitor heart rate, ECG and BP periodically throughout the therapy. Drug has strong taste. Mixing oral form with orange juice mask the taste. Assess patient to clear airway Provide support ventilation, if it is needed. Assess and support cardiac function. Reassure patient that communication abilities will return as the medication wears off
