The one thing most people dont know
about TREY is that he really
enjoys cooking around the
home. His expertise is varied
and, like a true man, he refuses
to follow directions.
Treys favorite dish, prepared
differently every time, is his
amazing CHEEZY RAMEN
NOODLES. Mmmm! It
sounds somewhat delicious!
Since S.O.S.M. reaches students who do
not regularly attend EastPoine Bible
Church, we want to highlight a student in
each edition. This way, all students have
an opportunity to get to know these stu-
dents in a different way from what hap-
pens on Thursday nights. Our student for
this inaugural issue is Junior High student
Trey Young.
TREY YOUNG: Trey is an 8th grade
student attending Caston Junior High
School northwest of Logansport, Indiana.

Students at S.O.S.M. had another
great week at Lake Ann Camp in
Lake Ann, Michigan this past July.
Even though students are still feel-
ing the rush from camp this past
summer, we here at Eastpointe are
getting ready to start planning for
FREEZE OUT and SUMMER
CAMP for 2012! Check out the
items below
Summer Camp Parent Meeting
Parents with children currently enrolled
in grades 3-12 are encouraged to attend a
summer camp information meeting. The
meeting will be held in room 109 on Sat-
urday, September 10th at 8:00 a.m. We
will discuss critical information about
registration, fundraising, transportation,
and deadlines. If you have any questions
or concerns about camp please see Jen-
nifer Vigar before the meeting or contact
her at j4vigar@aol.com.

As you can see, fundraising for our
summer campers is CRITICAL so en-
courage your parents to attend the meet-
ing on September 10th!
Last year, Crystal Smith (Caitlyn and
Caleb) stepped up to be the lead organiz-
er for fundraising and did an incredible
job for our students. Who will step for-
ward this year? Without a tremendous
effort from all, we cannot send EVERY-
ONE who wants to go! Get involved this
year!

Bank on them. Now, lets get up and do
what we need to do. Be gone anxiety.
Heres a summary of what he said:
i) Life is more than food and the body
more than clothing (Matthew 6:25).
ii) God feeds the birds
and you are more valua-
ble than they are
(Matthew 6:26).
iii) It's pointless. It
adds not one hour to
your life (Matthew
6:27).
iv) If God clothes ephemeral grass, he
will clothe eternal you (Matthew 6:28-
30).
v) Unbelievers are anxious about stuff.
And you are not an unbeliever
(Matthew 6:32a).
vi) Your father (!) knows that you
need all these things you're anxious
about (Matthew 6:32b).
vii) When you seek first
God's kingdom and right-
eousness, what you need
is added to you.
viii) Sufficient for the
day is its own trouble.
Tomorrow's trouble stays there
(Matthew 6:34).
We should be slow to treat Jesus as if
he doesnt know what he is doing. He
is not nave in the way he deals with
our anxiety. In Matthew 6:25-34 he
tells us three times not to be anxious
(vv. 25, 31, 34) and gives us eight rea-
sons not to be anxious.
Evidently he thinks this will help. So
dont call it simplistic. Call it grace.
Believe him. Take every reason and
preach it to your soul as true. Say, Soul,
this is true. Jesus Christ says so. Trust
him. He died for you. He loves you. He
created you. He knows you. No one
no counselor, no pastor, no friend
knows as much about you as he does.
Listen to him. Let these reasons sink in.
How are you at coming up with great
ideas? Well, now is the time to ACT
on that brilliantly clever and witty mind
that has been growing and molding for
over a decade.
We want to know YOUR opinions of
what we do here at S.O.S.M. Really,
what things are working and what
things are NOT?
How do you do it? Simply take a writ-
ing utensil (a pen or pencil) and answer
the following questions for us
QUESTION 1: What things did we do
in tonights Youth Group meeting that
were substantial and useful to you in
your Christian walk? What we are
looking for here is honesty. Really
even though it might not have been the
most fun youve ever had a Youth
Group, was it useful?
Next: QUESTION 2: What can we do
to make it BETTER (this is where the
BRIGHT IDEA comes in). It is not
hard to understand that old people
dont think like young people, so what
can we do to make things BETTER and
still honor God in the process?

The root of our sinfulness is the desire
for our own happiness apart from God
and apart from the happiness of others in
God. All sin comes from a desire to be
happy cut off from the glory of God and
cut off from the good of others.

Faith and suffering. Thats what verse 29 says.
In this context that means: Both your faith in the
face of suffering, and your suffering are gifts of
God. When Paul says, dont be frightened by
your opponents he had two reasons in his mind
why they dont need to be frightened:
One reason is that the opponents are in the hand
of God. Their opposition is a gift from God. He
governs it. Thats the first point of verse 29.
And the other reason not to be afraid is that your
fearlessness, that is, your faith, is also in the hand
of God. It too is a gift. That is the other point of
verse 29.
Paul told the Philippians that living worthy of the
gospel of Christ meant fearlessness before ene-
mies.
Only let your manner of life be worthy of the
gospel of Christ . . . not frightened in anything by
your opponents (Philippians 1:27-28).
Then he gave the logic of fearlessness.
For it has been granted to you that for the sake of
Christ you should not only believe in him but
also suffer for his sake (Philipians 1:29).
The logic is this:
God has given you two gifts, not just one:
So the logic of fearlessness in the face of adversi-
ty is this double truth: Both your adversity and
your faith in the face of adversity are gifts of
God.
Why is this called living worthy of the gospel of
Christ (v. 27)? Because the gospel is the good
news that Christs blood of the covenant infalli-
bly obtained for all his people the sovereign
working of God to give us faith and to govern our
enemies always for our eternal good.
Therefore, fear not. Your adversaries can do no
more than God grants. And he will grant you the
faith you need. These promises are blood bought
and sealed. Gospel promises.
