Dear Ministry Partner,

This month I would like to share with you again some thoughts from our trip this past June to Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The thoughts below are from one of our team members, Dr. Don Shaffer, an Oncologist at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta. What was so amazing to me about my trip to Haiti was seeing all the spiritual hunger, which I had heard of, but to see first hand was moving. I had 8 patients who at some point near the end of the visit indicated in one way or another that they wanted to follow Jesus, a couple were very explicit in their requests, none were prompted, though we asked to pray with almost everyone. The first patient who asked me, occurred when I asked if I could pray for him and he answered that he Dr. Don Shaffer with his translator wanted to invite Jesus in his heart right now. I was actually taken back by his request, so after going over the need for the Cross, and its meaning, and the need for us to accept this as the only way to have a relationship with God, he indicated that he understood all of that, agreed with it completely and we prayed. The very next patient asked the same question (yes its TRUE!), but this time my student assistant with me prayed and lead the patient to Christ. Another example occurred the very last day of our clinic. The patients were a married couple and when I asked what we could pray for, the man went into a litany of complaints against "Christians," and that he could not be a part of that. I completely agreed with him, and indicated that the church is full of those who think they are fooling God, but God knows who His true followers are. Then again unexpectedly he said that is what he wanted to be, and he said to me that when I come back next year to Haiti that "you will find that I will still be following Jesus." I am moved that God can use us simple folks with so little medicine to offer, but that is what this is all about. Medicine is one of a few keys that can get you into a country, despite political or religious issues, and then allow you into the intimacy Families still suffering from the aftermath Carol Shaffer, Pharm. D. serving as one of our of the 2010 Earthquake of relationship with that person/patient. When they clinic pharmacists in Haiti see that we come in the name of Jesus and offer what we can, I know that God is moving in their hearts, and seeds are being sown and lives are being transformed throughout Haiti. - Pease go to our YouTube site to view
