Tips

Other benefits
Wash & Rinse in cold water. Pre-soak clothes in detergent instead to improve cleanliness If buying new washing machine, buy frontloader Wash in full load Hot water shrinks your clothes, and fades and wears your clothes out faster. Using warm water for the rinse cycle doesn't get your clothes any cleaner.

Note on using front-loader washing machine

Gasket tends to get mouldy To clean, use cloth to wipe it with 50% vinegar solution and then rinse with water Repeat monthly

Typical water heater: 90-95% efficient Assuming 95% efficiency & rise in temp as 25oC 40oC Energy expenditure: Q=mcT=4.2kJ*15/kg=63kJ/L=0.0175kWh/L Shower uses 9L/min (PUB data) Energy expenditure:0.1575kwH/min Given typical shower: 10min 1.575kWh/ shower Given tariff $0.27/kwH $0.43 per shower!
