Alonzo Orozcos Naturally Talented (Prime Talent) posted the best time of 16 hopefuls for the Iowa Double Gold Derby. He ran 400 yards in a time of 19.671 in winning his trial August 2.

Presidents Message
With this years Double Gold Futurity and Derby trials completed, we are officially off and running in our second stand-alone Quarter Horse meet at Prairie Meadows. Congratulations to those of you who made the finals and good luck on August 19th and 20th. A few quick reminders on some of our early Quarter Horse racing events. On opening night, August 19th, Iowa wrestling coaches Tom and Terry Brands and their staff will be on hand to meet and greet everyone. Saturday, August 20 th is Ball Park Franks Night at the Races. Friday, August 26 th, Iowa Basketball coach Fran McCaffery and his staff will be on hand to meet and greet everyone. Saturday, August 27 th, from 8:00-10:00 A.M., the IQHRA and Prairie Meadows will host Morning at the Meadows. That evening Ben Hudson, owner of Track Magazine, will be on hand to meet everyone. As you can see, our live racing events schedule is full of excitement so please plan to attend and offer support to our fabulous industry. This years Awards Banquet is quickly approaching. It is set for Sunday, August 28 at the Ramada Tropics Resort and Conference Center. We are very excited to have Ben Hudson of Track Magazine as our Master of Ceremonies and also jockey Tadd Leggett will be on hand as a guest speaker. Also, dont forget this years IQHRA Fall Mixed Sale on September 11 th at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Sale catalogs will be mailed out to all members very soon. A reminder that all yearlings passing through the sale ring will be eligible for the 2012 IQHRA Fall Sale Futurity ($37,500 added). I want to wish everyone the best of luck this racing season at Prairie Meadows. I look forward to seeing you all in the Winners Circle!

IQHRA BOARD MEETING MINUTES JUNE 11, 2011 Members absent: Butch Hammer, Don Rayner, Dave Spieker Meeting was called to order by President Tom Lepic APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The May minutes were reviewed. Motion to approve made by Terry Thorson, seconded by Dick Tobin. Motion carried APPROVAL OF TREASURERS REPORT: The Treasurers report was reviewed. Motion to approve made by John Lawless, seconded by Butch Bain. Motion carried. Janet Rinehart reported that the Stallion Service auction officially closed with 66 stallions sold for a total of $20,143. IA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE: Jill Paxton congratulated the 3 breed groups on the passage of the Horse Legislation and the signing into law by Governor Branstad. She distributed to the Board the current regulations pertaining to Iowa Certified Stallions, Iowa certified broodmares, and Iowa certified foals. There are numerous guidelines which must be met in all 3 categories. The State of Iowa does not recognize any lease agreements. Jack Peters stated with the ever changing medical breakthroughs in breeding techniques, frozen semen and embryo transferring, he recommended looking at the current regulations for possible updating. Jill encouraged dialog between us and the Department of Agriculture to clarify and amend needed changes. Members should be aware of the current regulations, requirements, and necessary dates in order to have an Ia. certified foal. EXECUTIVE SECRETARY: John Hernandez reported that artwork for our logo is currently being designed by Prairie Meadows. The June newsletter is progressing and should be out soon. John and Tom have been meeting with Prairie Meadows simulcasting department about implementing changes in the signal markets. He proposed 12 target areas which would improve off track betting opportunities. John has been in contact with 2 web designers concerning implementation of our new website. He has received 2 bids and will be happy to e-mail those bids to members of the board wishing a copy. LOBBYIST: Sandra reported that the Horse Legislation was signed by the Governor and will go into effect for the 2012 racing season. The only item to negotiate with Prairie Meadows and the HBPA is the dates the individual meets will begin and end. SALE COMMITTEE: The Sale committee met before the board meeting. Chairman Terry Thorson reported that the consignment deadline will be July 15 th. After the deadline the fee rises to $200 with a supplement sheet provided. Consignments will be accepted the day of the Sale for $250 and no advertising will be provided. Consignment forms will be available soon. Motion made by Larry Henry to send a letter to everyone who consigned or purchased a horse in last years sale, thanking them for their
participation and encouraging them to participate this year. Seconded by Leonard Reed. Motion carried. YOUTH DAYS: Brenda Onstot reported that there has been 1 application received so far. She is waiting for responses from local 4-H groups. Application forms are on the website for interested youth. The deadline for applications is July 1st. BANQUET: Our annual awards banquet is August 28 th at the Ramada Resort in Des Moines. Our guest speaker will be Ben Hudson from TRACK magazine. There will be a Silent Auction also. Donation items are being accepted now till the evening of the banquet. Contact Kay Denning or Polly Lepic for further information. The new deadline is July 1 for nominations and August 1 for sustaining payments.
