Operation Guide 3M-50

To turn your 3M-50 ON, press the MODE button on the right side. This cycles the 3M-50 through HEAT, COOL, AUTO and OFF modes. The 3M-50 programmable communicating thermostat operates via a high-quality, easy-touse touch screen. To program or adjust your 3M50, simply touch your finger firmly to the screen. The screen will automatically light up and you will hear a beep. The screen will respond differently to different types of touches, so you may want to experiment by touching it different ways, finger, fingernail, etc. Do not use a sharp or metallic device; it will scratch the screen.
Statement of use: 100% Compatible with all popular residential HVAC systems; 24VAC single, two stage conventional heating systems (gas/oil/electric), heat pumps, single stage or with auxiliary heat (electric or fossil), zoned forced air and zoned hot water (2 or 3 wire), millivolt systems (with a 12-24 AC or DC source), one or two stage cooling, and hybrid systems.

Control Screens

Before you operate the 3M-50 please get familiar with these basic control screens. All the 3M-50 functions are accessed through these screens: HOME, MENU, PROGRAM and MANUAL. The 3M50 touch screen technology allows you to select (by touching) an item and change it using the +/arrows or the time arrows. The simple HOME screen is displayed when the unit is operating. Touching the HOME icon on another screen will always return you to this screen. To set a Mode: Press the mode button on the side. The 3M-50 will step through the modes HEAT, OFF, COOL, OFF and AUTO in order. The LCD shows what mode you are in.

Auto-Run Program
The 3M-50 comes pre-programmed with an EPA approved program. This program is recommended by the EPA for energy efficiency. We strongly recommend that you Auto-Run this program for one week and see if it works for you. If it does not fit your needs, you can always input a custom program. To run the EPA program, set the mode switch to HEAT or COOL. Press the MENU button and use the arrows by the time display to set the time. Touch the DAY area and advance it to select the present day. Touch HOME. The unit is now running the program.t

TO CHANGE THE PROGRAM:

Make sure the 3M-50 mode is set to either HEAT or COOL, then press the PROGRAM button. This puts you at the PROGRAM screen [see page 4]. The programmed start time is displayed in the upper left. The TIME SLOT icon indicates the active TIME SLOT in the default program [MORN, DAY, EVEN, NITE]. The programmed Target Temperature is shown on main display. The HEAT program and the COOL program are separate.

PROGRAM cont. Select the day you want to program.

The day of the week starts at SU - Sunday and can be advanced to the day you want to program. Touch the day of the week area to cycle through the days of the week to the desired day.

Select the time slot (period) you want to program (MORN, DAY, EVEN, NITE).
Touch the time slot area to cycle through to the desired period.

Select the desired start time of that time slot.

Touch the time arrows to select the desired periods starting time. Hold arrow down for fast time scrolling.

Select the desired target temperature for that time slot.

Touch the +/- arrows to select the desired periods temperature. To COPY one days programming to the next day, touch COPY DAY once. The information for the current day will be copied to the next day which will appear on the screen. Holding down COPY for over 3 seconds will copy to all 7 days. Touch to return to the Home screen.

MENU Screen Functions

Press MENU to bring up MENU screen.

TIME of DAY

Touch the left (backward) or right (forward) arrows next to the time display to set the current time (1 minute per touch). Touch and hold the arrow for fast time set (15 minute jumps). DST - Daylight Savings Time Correction This function makes a 1 hour adjustment to the time from Standard Time to Daylight Savings Time. Touch to turn on or off.

DAY of Week Touch DAY area to select present day. SWING (HVAC cycling rate) This feature allows you to set the desired variance in temperature
between the 3M-50 setting and the room temperature required before the heating or cooling system will turn onfrom 0.5 to 2.0 F (.25 to 1 C). For example, if SWING is set to 2.0 F and the 3M50 is set to 70F Target Temperature, the heat cycle will start when room temperature drops to 68F. Similarly, the cooling system will start when the room temperature increases to 72F. The HVAC then runs and will shut off at the Target Temperature. To set SWING: Touch SWING. Touch the left/right arrows to set the SWING from 0.5 to 2.0F. The HVAC will run more frequently at .5F and less at 2F. Default is 1F.

FILTER - AIR FILTER ALERT - The 3M-50 can be programmed to remind you when the HVAC

sytems air filter needs changing. Touch FILTER. The display will show the usage to date. Touch FILTER for over 3 seconds and the display will change to LIMIT. Touch arrows to set desired usage limit before filter alert comes on home screen. When this limit is reached, FILTER will be on home screen and the CHECK FILTER indicator lights. Limit may be set from 0 to 999 days/99 weeks; default is 90 days/12 weeks. Touch to reset. To reset the usage back to 0, touch usage number; touching it again restores the displayed usage. Touch to return to the MENU screen.

Touch icon for 5 seconds; the unit will go into the PARTIAL lock mode. The user can temporarily override the 3M-50 target with the +/- buttons only. (1 bar) For FULL lock : Touch the (1 bar) icon again for 5 seconds to go to full lock. No changes can be made in full lock (2 bars). Once locked, the 3M-50 will respond just to mode and menu.

To UNLOCK , Press MENU. Touch and hold icon for 5 seconds for 2 bars (if not there already). Then touch and hold the icon for another 5 seconds. Each 5 second touch and hold must be separate. Touch to return to the Home screen.

Your thermostat was accurately calibrated at the factory to 1 F of actual ambient temperature. You do have the option, however, to change the display temperature to match that of a previous thermostat, or to match another thermostat already in your home. The range of change is from -6F to +6F or -3C to +3C. To change your Thermostat Calibration, touch MENU and then touch CALIBRATE. Use the + / - to adjust the displayed temperature up or down, as desired. The DELTA FACTOR that appears on the screen will also automatically increase or decrease for each 0.5 (F or C) adjustment so you can see your change. The large display will show the modified temerature reading that will be displayed on the HOME screen and used as the new room temperature. Touch to return to the Home screen.

CALIBRATE

DIFF (Used for 2 stage normal or heat pump with auxiliary only, not on screen for single stage) The differential is the number of degrees between the room temperature and the Target Temperature at which the 2nd stage will be used. Default is 2F.

Touch MENU and then DIFF. Use the arrows to set the DIFF. Recommend 2F for very cold climates and the 4F for warm climates.

MANUAL Screen Functions

The 3M-50 has 4 manual override commands. The manual screen is accessed by touching the large current temperature display in the middle of the HOME screen. IMPORTANT: The Mode must be in HEAT or COOL to access the manual screen. TEMPORARY override Touch the + / - arrows to select your desired temporary Target Temperature. Touch HOME to return to operation. The TEMPORARY icon will display indicating you have modified the Target Temperature for the current Time Slot only. It goes back to the program target at the next period. Also, when in TEMPORARY, if the target is set the same as the programmed target for that period, the word TEMPORARY will go out. HOLD This will hold the target temperature you set indefinitely, until you turn HOLD off. HOLD will allow you to operate your thermostat as a manual thermostat. It will keep whatever temperature you set until you change it or cancel hold. Take care using the HOLD function as the program is now bypassed. To set a hold target temperature, touch HOLD and use the +/- icons to select your hold temperature. The HOLD icon will display on the HOME screen indicating you have changed the Target Temperature. will HOLD this temperature until you return to the manual screen and de-select HOLD by touching it. Hold is also canceled when you set the mode to OFF. HOLIDAY This is a single program that repeats day after day until you turn it off. It supersedes the weekly program. To use it touch HOLIDAY on the temporary screen. The default holiday program is shown here [Default program: HEAT 70oF all day and 62oF at night. COOL 78oF all day and 82oF at night.] To modify this program, touch the PROGRAM button and then touch the DAY area until HOLIDAY appears (after SAT). The default HOLIDAY program is set as 2 time slots; all day (same target MORN, DAY and EVEN) and a different target for NITE. EMER (in HEAT PUMP type) If you set your 3M-50 for HEAT PUMP with auxiliary heat, EMER function is available on the MANUAL screen. If you touch EMER, it displays EMER|ON. Your HEAT PUMP is disabled and auxiliary heat is your sole source of heat. This manual override stays active until you toggle EMER off. Auxiliary heat is more expensive than the heat pump so use EMER only if the heat pump cannot keep up or is defective.

Other Functions Save Energy Button

The Save Energy feature on the 3M-50 provides a simple, easy-to-use way to help you manage your energy use. SAVE ENERGY automatically adjusts your Target Temperature up in COOL or down in HEAT by 4oF. To use Save Energy, press the Save Energy button in the upper left corner of the unit. The screen will now read Save Energy. To return to normal operation, press the Save Energy button again. This is useful to save energy if you are gone for a short time.

MODE Button

The mode button sets the 3M-50 to HEAT, COOL, AUTO, or OFF modes. Press it once to step to the next mode. If the 3M-50 is in OFF and you want to return to the mode you were previously in, touch the OFF indicator on screen. COOL - This will operate the cooling portion of your HVAC system until it is turned off. HEAT - This will operate the heating portion of your HVAC system until it is turned off. AUTO - The 3M-50 TRUE AUTO mode switches automatically between heat and cool throughout the year. Unlike other manufacturers, the 3M-50 TRUE AUTO has no temperature or time limitations (Patent pending), just program your desired HEAT and COOL temps and select the AUTO mode. The 3M-50 will switch from HEAT to COOL as needed. OFF- This takes your HVAC system off-line and it will not control HVAC functions. In this mode your house may experience extreme heat or cold.

FAN Button

The fan control is normally in AUTO mode, meaning that the fan operates automatically with the HVAC system and the thermostat. When the fan button is pressed the fan goes ON; the fan will run continuously in this manual override until switched back to AUTO by pressing the FAN button again. [NOTE: Fan ON function is available in the OFF mode to allow simple ventilating.]

This display mode limits the amount of information on screen and limits the functions to just the +/arrows and the MENU button. Set mode to OFF and ... compressor in cool and in heat pump (if you have one). The Home screen will show a small clock and A/C during this time and the compressor will not come on until the 4 minute delay is over.

Communicating Thermostat
The 3M-50 has 2 RTM-1 radio ports. These allow your thermostat to communicate with other systems. your 3M-50 to your home WiFi network. This can give you access to your homes HVAC system even when you are away [with additional web service]. It can also give you access to web based efficient energy management sites that can help you save money and protect the environment.You can connect your 3M-50 to a Home Automation network for HA functionality with remote access to your HVAC system and home conditions. To Insert a USNAP radio module: Power off the 3M-50. Insert the radio module in either slot on the back of the 3M-50. Power up 3M-50. To connect to a network follow the instructions that came with the USNAP module.

Programacin de Funcionamiento Automtico

El 3M-50 viene preprogramado con una configuracin aprobada por el EPA. Esta configuracin es la recomendada por EPA para ahorrar energa. Te recomendamos ampliamente que utilices esta programacin en automtico por una semana para que determines si es la adecuada para ti. Si no lo es, puedes usar una configuracin personalizada. Para utilizar la programacin de EPA, coloca el interruptor de modalidad en HEAT (CALOR) o COOL (FRO). Oprime el botn de MENU y usa las flechas cercanas a la imagen de hora, para seleccionar la hora. Toca el rea de DAY (DA) hasta seleccionar el da de hoy. Toca HOME (INICIO). Has programado la unidad para que utilice el programa indicado.

PARA CAMBIAR EL PROGRAMA:

Asegrate de que el interruptor de modalidad del 3M-50 est en la posicin de HEAT (CALOR) o COOL (FRO), luego presiona el botn de PROGRAM (PROGRAMAR). Esto te llevar a la pantalla de PROGRAM [ver pgina 4]. La hora de inicio programada aparecer arriba y a la izquierda. El icono de TIME SLOT (INTERVALO) indica el INTERVALO activo en la programacin predeterminada [MAANA, DA, TARDE, NOCHE]. La temperatura deseada programada aparece en la pantalla principal. Las programaciones de CALOR y FRO aparecen separadamente.

PROGRAM (PROGRAMACIN) continuacin Selecciona el da que deseas programar.

Los das de la semana empiezan con SU (DO) - Del Domingo puedes avanzar hasta el da que deseas programar. Oprime continuamente el rea de da de la semana hasta llegar al da deseado.

Selecciona el intervalo (perodo) que deseas programar (MAANA, DA, TARDE, NOCHE).
Toca el rea de intervalo hasta llegar al el perodo deseado.

Selecciona la hora de inicio de ese intervalo.

Toca las flechas de hora para seleccionar la hora de inicio deseada del perodo. Mantn la flecha presionada para seleccionar la hora rpidamente.

Selecciona la temperatura deseada para ese intervalo.

Toca las flechas de +/- para seleccionar la temperatura deseada para ese perodo. Para COPIAR la programacin de un da y usarla para otro da, toca COPY DAY (COPIAR DA) una vez. La informacin del da actual se copiar en el siguiente da, el cual aparecer en la pantalla. Mantener oprimido el botn de COPY (COPIAR) por ms de 3 segundos, copiar la programacin para los 7 das. Toca para regresar a la pantalla de inicio.

Funciones de la Pantalla de MENU (MEN)

Oprime MENU para acceder a la pantalla de MEN HORA del DA Toca la flecha de la izquierda (hacia atrs) o de la derecha (hacia adelante) al lado de la hora para configurar la hora actual (1 minuto por toque). Mantn oprimida la flecha para seleccin rpida de la hora (intervalos de 15 minutos). DA de la Semana Toca el rea de DAY (DA) para seleccionar el da en curso SWING (FLUCTUACIN) (variacin del ciclo del sistema de aire acondicionado, ventilacin, y calefaccin o HVAC en ingls) Esta caracterstica te permite configurar la variacin deseada de temperatura entre la que has programado para el 3M-50 y la temperatura que debe alcanzar la habitacin antes de que se encienda el sistema de aire acondicionado o calefaccinde 0.5 a 2.0 F (.25 a 1 C). Por ejemplo, si la FLUCTUACIN est programada para 2.0 F y el 3M-50 est programado para una temperatura deseada de 70F, el ciclo de calefaccin se encender cuando la temperatura baje a 68F. De igual modo, el sistema de aire acondicionado se encender cuando la temperatura de la habitacin alcance los 72F. En ese momento el HVAC se encender, y luego se apagar al alcanzar la temperatura deseada. Para configurar el SWING: Toca SWING. Toca las flecha de la izquierda/derecha para programar la funcin de SWING de 0.5 a 2.0F. El HVAC se encender con ms frecuencia al programarse en .5F y menos en 2F. La programacin predeterminada es 1F.

FILTER (FILTRO) - ALERTA DE FILTRO DE AIRE - El 3M-50 se puede programar para recordarte cuando necesites cambiar el filtro del sistema de HVAC. Toca FILTER (FILTRO). La pantalla mostrar cunto se ha usado hasta la fecha. Toca FILTER por ms de 3 segundos y la pantalla cambiar a LIMIT (LMITE). Toca las flechas para configurar el lmite de uso deseado antes de que la alerta de cambiar el filtro aparezca en la pantalla Cuando se alcance este lmite, la palabra FILTER (FILTRO) aparecer en la pantalla de inicio y el indicador de CHECK FILTER (REVISAR EL FILTRO) se iluminar. El lmite puede configurarse entre 0 y 999 das/99 semanas; la configuracin predeterminada es 90 das/12 semanas. Toca para reiniciar. Para configurar a 0, toca el nmero de uso; tocarlo dos veces muestra de nuevo el uso hasta el momento. Toca para volver a la pantalla de MENU.

LOCK (BLOQUEAR) (El 3M-50 tiene 2 modalidades de bloqueo) Toca el icono de por 5 seconds; la unidad cambiar a modalidad de bloqueo PARCIAL. Esto permite que el usuario cambie la temperatura deseada del 3M-50 mediante los botones +/- solamente. (1 barra) Para bloqueo COMPLETO: Toca de nuevo el icono de (1 barra) por 5 segundos para bloquear por completo. No se pueden hacer cambios durante el bloqueo completo (2 barras). Una vez bloqueado, el 3M-50 slo responder a los botones de MODE (MODALIDAD) y MENU (MEN).

(CALIBRAR) Tu termostato se calibr de forma precisa en fbrica a 1 F de la temperatura ambiente real. Sin embargo tienes la opcin de cambiar la temperatura mostrada para que coincida con tu termostato anterior, o con otro termostato en tu hogar. El rango de cambio va de -6F a +6F o de -3C a +3C. Para cambiar la calibracin de tu termostato, toca MENU (MEN) y luego toca CALIBRAR. Usa + / - para ajustar la temperatura mostrada, hacia arriba o hacia abajo, segn desees. El DELTA FACTOR (FACTOR DELTA) que aparece en pantalla tambin aumentar o disminuir por cada ajuste de 0.5 (F o C) para que puedas ver tu cambio. La imagen grande mostrar la temperatura modificada que aparecer en la pantalla de HOME (INICIO) y que ser usada como temperatura nueva de la habitacin. Toca para regresar a la pantalla de inicio.

DIFF (Se usa para sistemas normales de 2 etapas o bombas trmicas con auxiliar solamente, no aparecer en pantalla para sistemas de 1 etapa) El diferencial es la diferencia en grados entre la temperatura de la habitacin y la temperatura deseada con la cual se activar la segunda etapa. El valor predeterminado es 2F.

Toca MENU y luego DIFF. Usa las flechas para configurar DIFF. Se recomienda 2F para climas muy fros y 4F para climas clidos.

Funciones de Pantalla MANUAL

El 3M-50 tiene 4 controles de anulacin de funciones. La pantalla manual se accede al tocar la imagen grande de temperatura actual que se encuentra en el centro de la pantalla de HOME (INIICIO). IMPORTANTE: La modalidad debe estar en CALOR o FRO para poder acceder a la pantalla manual. Anulacin TEMPORAL Toca las flechas de + / - para seleccionar la temperatura deseada temporal. Toca HOME para volver al funcionamiento. El icono de TEMPORARy (TEMPORAL) aparecer para indicar que has modificado la Temperatura Deseada slo para el Intervalo actual. Al llegar al siguiente perodo las funciones volvern a la programacin previamente seleccionada. Adems, cuando ests en TEMPORARy (TEMPORAL) si la temperatura deseada temporal es la misma que la temperatura previamente programada para ese perodo, la palabra TEMPORARy (TEMPORAL) desaparecer. HOLD (MANTENER) Esto mantendr la temperatura deseada indefinidamente, hasta que canceles la funcin de HOLD. HOLD permite que operes tu termostato igual que un termostato manual. Mantendr la temperatura que determines hasta que la cambies o canceles la funcin de mantener. Debes tener cuidado al usar la funcin de HOLD ya que anula la programacin previa. Para seleccionar la temperatura deseada, toca HOLD y usa los iconos de +/- para seleccionar la temperatura que desees mantener. El icono de HOLD aparecer en la pantalla de INICIO para indicar que has cambiado la Temperatura Deseada. El sistema va a MANTENER esa temperatura hasta que vuelvas a la pantalla manual y canceles la funcin de HOLD al tocarla. La funcin de HOLD tambin se cancela mediante la modalidad de APAGADO.

FERIADO Esta es una sola programacin que se repite todos los das hasta que la desactivas. Esto anular la programacin semanal. Para usarla toca HOLIDAy en la pantalla temporal. La programacin de feriado se muestra aqu [Programa predeterminado: CALOR 70oF todo el da y 62oF en la noche. FRO 78oF todo el da y 82oF en la noche. Para modificar esta programacin toca el botn PROGRAMAR y luego toca el rea de DA hasta que aparezca la palabra HOLIDAY (FERIADO) (despus de SAT). La programacin de HOLIDAY predeterminada es de 2 intervalos; todo el da (la misma temperatura deseada para la MAANA, DA y NOCHE) y una distinta para la NOCHE. EMER (EMERGENCIA)(en tipos de BOMBA TRMICA) Si configuras tu 3M-50 para HEAT PUMP (BOMBA TRMICA) con calefaccin auxiliar, la funcin de EMER est disponible en la pantalla MANUAL. Al tocar EMER, la pantalla mostrar EMER|ON (EMERGENCIA|ENCENDIDA). Tu BOMBA TRMICA se desactivar y la calefaccin auxiliar ser tu nica fuente de calor. Esta anulacin manual se mantendr activa hasta que apagues la modalidad de EMER. El calor auxiliar es ms caro que el calor de la bomba trmica, as que slo usa EMER si tu bomba no da abasto o est defectuosa.

Otras funciones
Botn de Ahorro de Energa
La modalidad de Ahorro de Energa de tu 3M-50 es una manera de ayudarte a controlar cunta energa usas, de manera sencilla y fcil de usar. SAVE ENERGY (AHORRO DE ENERGA) automticamente sube la Temperatura Deseada en modalidad de COOL (FRO) o la baja en modalidad de HEAT (FRO) a razn de 4 oF. Para usar Ahorro de Energa oprime el botn de Save Energy en la esquina superior izquierda de la unidad. Save Energy aparecer en la pantalla. Para regresar al funcionamiento normal oprime de nuevo el botn de Save Energy. Esto ayuda a conservar energa si te ausentas por perodos cortos.

Botn de MODE (MODALIDAD)

Este botn cambia el 3M-50 a las modalidades de HEAT (CALOR), COOL (FRO), AUTO (AUTOMTICO) y OFF (APAGADO). Oprmelo una vez para pasar a la prxima modalidad. Si el 3M-50 est en APAGADO y deseas regresar a la modalidad anterior, toca el indicador de OFF (APAGADO) en la pantalla. COOL (FRO): Esto accionar la funcin de aire acondicionado de tu sistema HVAC hasta que lo apagues. HEAT (CALOR): Esto accionar la funcin de calefaccin de tu sistema HVAC hasta que lo apagues. AUTO (AUTOMTICO)- La modalidad TRUE AUTO (COMPLETAMENTE AUTOMTICA) del 3M-50 cambia automticamente entre calor y fro durante el ao. A diferencia de los modelos de otros fabricantes, el TRUE AUTO del 3M-50 no tiene limitaciones de tiempo ni temperatura (Patente pendiente), slo programa las temperaturas deseadas de CALOR y FRO y selecciona la modalidad de AUTO (AUTOMTICO). El 3M-50 pasar de CALOR a FRO segn sea necesario. OFF-(APAGADO): Esto cambia el estado de tu HVAC a "fuera de lnea" y no permite controlar las funciones del sistema. En esta modalidad tu casa puede experimentar calor o fro extremos.

Botn de FAN (VENTILADOR)

Normalmente, el control del ventilador est en modalidad de AUTO, lo que significa que el ventilador funciona automticamente con el sistema de HVAC y el termostato. Cuando el botn de ventilador est oprimido, el ventilador est ENCENDIDO; el ventilador funcionar continuamente en modalidad de anulacin manual hasta que se cambie a AUTO (AUTOMTICO) al presionar nuevamente el botn FAN. [NOTA: La funcin de ventilador en ON se puede usar en la modalidad de OFF (APAGADO) para cuando se necesite ventilacin simple.]

Pantalla Simple

Esta modalidad de pantalla limita la informacin que aparecer y muestra slo las flechas +/- y el botn de MENU. En la modalidad OFF... Presiona el botn de PROGRAM por 12 segundos para acceder a la pantalla limitada. Presiona el botn de PROGRAM por 12 segundos para salir de la pantalla limitada.

Botn de RESET (REINICIO) El botn de RESET reinicia el procesador del 3M-50. No afecta las programaciones
de usuario que hayan sido guardadas en la memoria permanente.

Proteccin del Compresor El 3M-50 cuenta con un ciclo mnimo de of 4 minutos para proteger tu compresor en
frio o bomba trmica (si tienes una). La pantalla de inicio mostrar un pequeo reloj y ni el aire acondicionado ni el compresor se encendern hasta que la demora de 4 minutos haya finalizado.

Termostato de Comunicacin
El 3M-50 tiene 2 puertos para radio RTM-1. Estos permiten que tu termostato se comunique con otros sistemas.

Radio US-

Uso de Radios con puertos de acceso USNAP Los puertos de acceso

USNAP conectan tu 3M-50 a la red WiFi de tu hogar. Esto te permite acceder a tu HVAC aun cuando no ests en casa [mediante un servicio de internet adicional]. Tambin te permite acceder a sitios web de manejo eficiente de energa que pueden ayudarte a ahorrar dinero y proteger el medio ambiente. Puedes conectar tu 3M-50 a una red de Automatizacin del Hogar para funcionalidad de Alta Disponibilidad (HA) con acceso rmoto a tu sistema HVAC y a las condiciones de tu hogar. Cmo insertar un mdulo de radio USNAP: Apaga el 3M-50. Inserta el mdulo de radio en cualquiera de las ranuras de la parte posterior del 3M-50. Enciende el 3M-50. Para conectarte a una red sigue las instrucciones NO INSERTAR o RETIRAR mdulos de USNAP incluidas con el mdulo USNAP. si la unidad est ENCENDIDA. Esto podra daar los mdulos de radio o el termostato.
