SPECIALIST TITLE
is conferred to PICE LIFE members who applied and were evaluated as QUALIFIED by the members of the responsible Specialty Division. Type I PRC Accredited Specialty Engineers Type II Others, Screening and evaluation is based on experience and professional practice.

1. If I am not a specialist, can I still practice structural engineering, e.g. sign and seal structural plans?
YES, but per the Manual of Standard Practice of Civil Engineers, only those with Specialist accreditation can affix the title Structural Engineer to their names.

2. What are the benefits of being a Specialist?
- In DPWHs screening and evaluation, additional credits are given for specialists. - Abroad and even locally, Specialist accreditation can be used for negotiations in position and pay. - Specialist title is peer recognition and can serve as proof that you have the experience and knowhow .
SPECIALIST TITLE
BEFORE 2008, evaluation was based on documents submitted, which attested to one's experience in the field of specialization. NO EXAM requirement.

SPECIALIST TITLE
AFTER DECEMBER 2007, no more applications were accepted from Philippine-based Engineers, for each Division's evaluation. Locally-based members interested in becoming Specialists need to apply and then will be evaluated if qualified to take the exam. Those pre-qualified will be scheduled for examination.
SPECIALIST TITLE
For PICE Life members based OVERSEAS, applications for Specialist Evaluation based on documents only (NO EXAM) were accepted up to December 31, 2008. AFTER 2008, all interested will have to apply for prequalification for examination.

Must be a PICE LIFE MEMBER at least 30 yrs old Must submit documentary requirements Personal Data Profile
Work Experience and Service Record certified by Head of Office/ Manager/ Dean For academe, certification from the Dean regarding teaching load and subjects List of projects undertaken Notarized Self-certification stating that he/she has no pending administrative/criminal case filed against him/her.

PRE-QUALIFICATION REQ'TS
Credentials: Must have at least five (5) RATED years of continuous active practice in area of specialization; OR at least five (5) RATED years of teaching experience in area of specialization; OR a master's degree in the area of specialization plus three (3) RATED years of professional practice in area of specialization. OR a doctorate degree in the area of specialization plus one (1) RATED year of professional practice in area of specialization.
PRE-QUALIFICATION REQ'TS
PLUS POINTS Research outputs and/or research work/paper presented in major conventions/published in enginering journals.

SPECIALTY EXAMINATION
The type of examination is determined by the Specialty Division concerned. The Passing Grade is 70%.

The test shall consist of 2 parts: (a) Panel Interview (b) Written Exam Depending on applicant's experience, the breakdown of the 2 parts varies.
