An investigation into the relationship between the pressure and the volume of an enclosed mass of gas at constant temperature. AIMS: 1. 2. 3. 4. To investigate the relationship between the volume and pressure of an enclosed gas. To obtain accurate measurements using the Boyles Law apparatus. To record the information obtained in both tabular and graphical form. To analyse and interpret the information.

INSTRUCTIONS: Pay careful attention when your teacher describes the apparatus and the method to be used in the investigation. Take notes so that you will know what to do when the investigation is carried out. This investigation will be carried out as a class group. You are required to take notes during the investigation and record all readings taken. Then you must write up the investigation and carry out the analysis of the results as detailed under procedure below. PROCEDURE: 1. The apparatus will be set up for the class investigation. 2. Pairs of learners will be selected at random to take a minimum of 6 pairs (sets) of readings for pressure and the corresponding volume. 3. Record these results. 4. Now do the write-up. Ensure that the following are included. 4.1 Aim 4.2 Brief description of the method, including a sketch of the apparatus 4.3 Brief description of how and why the apparatus works. 4.4 Results, correctly tabulated. 4.5 Graphical representation of the results (two graphs) 4.6 Interpretation of the results, in terms of the relationship between pressure and volume. 4.7 Conclusion 4.8 Attach your rubric evaluation sheet on top of your write-up. ASSESSMENT: Consult the rubrics on the next page that will be used to assess your work. Ensure that you have attempted to satisfy all the requirements. The total mark allocated to the practical is indicated on the rubric sheet.
