eVD4 Primary distribution circuit-breakers with integrated protection, control and sensors
eVD4 - The Smart eVolution
The eVD4 circuit-breaker is a complete plug and play medium voltage electrical plant protection system. It is the evolution of the traditional concept of a circuit-breaker and, with a single device, carrying out the breaking, measurement, protection, control and communication functions. eVD4 is equipped with Relion technology based protection and control unit RBX615. The eVD4 also integrates combined current and voltage sensors. With this integrated solution, the MTTR Mean Time to Repair of the system managed by eVD4 is much shorter than traditional solutions. This makes the eVD4 the ideal solution for all installations where a high degree of continuity of service is required. The eVD4 is available in fixed and withdrawable versions for UniGear ZS1 switchgear and PowerCube units. eVD4 is mechanically interchangeable with VD4 series circuit-breaker. Primary distribution circuit-breakers with integrated protection, control and sensors

Switchgear simplification The eVD4 medium voltage vacuum circuit-breakers satisfy most of the requirements of modern electrical installations. The built-in protection and control unit RBX615, together with integrated current and voltage sensors, considerably simplifies the switchgear cabling activities and drastically reduces the risk of errors. This means less time required for engineering, cabling and for the final testing procedures (FAT Factory Acceptance Test). Operation of the circuit-breaker and protections is ensured as all the components and protection and control function default logics are factory-tested.

Easy plant design The eVD4 circuit-breakers greatly simplify the design of the electrical system establishing the current, voltage and type of application. The protection of the plant is achieved by the RBX615 protection and control unit, with the current-voltage sensors and with the five standard preconfigurations. The circuit-breaker itself can be used in a wide range of applications. This means that the circuit-breaker can be selected early in the production cycle, even though some of the details of the switchgear design are not yet defined. Further, the vast range of other available accessories allows that most requirements are met. The eVD4 is suitable for most applications, namely the protection of cables, overhead lines, transformers, motors, as well as other substation applications.

Rapid commissioning Installation and commissioning is simplified by a widely configurable protection and control unit. Thanks to this innovative solution, the eVD4 can easily be integrated into the switchgear. The RBX615 protection and control unit with native IEC 61850 communication protocol allows the circuit-breaker to be interconnected to the substation management system without additional interfacing devices. The HMI and the substation management system allows the user to easily adapt the protection and control logics, provided in the preconfigurations. The simplicity of the circuit-breaker allows optimisation of spare parts and speeding up of the maintenance operations.

Combined current-voltage sensors The eVD4 circuit-breakers use only current as well combined current and voltage sensors (Combisensor) which are able to measure current and voltage in each phase. Coverage of the whole range of currents and voltages is guaranteed with just two sizes of sensors up to the maximum rated current and voltage of the circuit-breaker. The current is measured by a Rogowski coil: a uniform winding on a closed circular support with a constant crosssection and without a ferromagnetic core. The voltage induced in the winding is directly proportional to the variation in the let-through current. The current sensors are characterized by the absence of saturation and hysteresis phenomena and by measuring precision for the fault currents up to the maximum setting value for the protection thresholds. The voltage is measured by a capacitive divider: a cylindrical metal electrode moulded in the sensor and facing the circuitbreaker bushing. The output signal is a voltage directly proportional to the primary voltage. The voltage sensors are characterized by the absence of ferroresonance phenomena.

RBX615 protection and monitoring unit based on Relion technology The RBX615 unit is dedicated to protect, control, measure and supervise of utility substations and industrial electrical systems. The unit is compliant with the IEC 61850 Standard and utilizes native GOOSE (Generic Object Oriented Substation Event) communication. In the power distribution switchgear, units equipped with the Relion technology can communicate with each other. They can also communicate directly with the control system in a substation control room through a network switch. The RBX615 unit offers protection of overhead lines, cables lines and distribution substation systems. The protection functions suit radial distribution networks regardless of the grounding principle.

Standard Pre-configurations The RBX615 protection and monitoring unit is available with five alternative pre-configurations.
