Principle of Governm ent Rule of Law

Definition

All executive and judicial officersshall be bound by oath or affirmation to support this Constitution

Federalism

Power is divided between central government and smaller regional governments

Full faith and credit shall be given in each state to the public acts, records, and judicial proceedings of every other state

No state shall enter into any treaty, alliance, or confederation

Checks & Balances

Each branch of government can limit the power of the other branches

The House of Representativesshall have the sole power of impeachment

He (the President) shall have power, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, to make treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur Every bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shallbe presented to the President of the United States

Majority Rule

Decisions approved by more than half of the people in society will be accepted and observed by all the people

The House of Representatives shall be composed of members chosen every second year by the people of the several states

If (the president vetoes the bill) and two thirds of that house shall agree to pass the bill, it shall be sentto the other house and if approved by two thirds of that house, it shall become a law

Protection of Minority Rights

Protect minority rights by allowing the minority to express its views on issues

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion , or prohibiting the free exercise thereof

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. The judicial power of the United States, shall be vested in one supreme Court, and in such inferior courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish

Separation of Power

Powers of government should be split between two or more strongly independent branches to prevent any one person or group from gaining too much power

The executive power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America

All legislative powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives
