n Harvest Festival officials select princess, queen
Angela Gray, Kaitlyn Geers, and Kailey Grospin, The evening was a success. Maureen Baker, the pageant hostess, asked each of the princess applicants what she would do and where she would live if she were a real princess. Autumn McCoy, selected as the 2011 Princess, said that she would live in a big house, watch TV, and do whatever she wanted. She would also have a fish named Sleepy who would sleep all day. The queen candidates were interviewed by pageant judges, Representative Rick Outman, Montcalm County Clerk Kristin Millard, and attorney Jessica Wood. Each candidate also gave a presentation explaining why she wanted to represent Howard City as Harvest Festival Queen. Kailey Grospin was selected 2011 Harvest Festival Queen. Kailey describes herself as a very outgoing individual who stands out in a crowd and is not influenced by others. The evenings photo memories were captured by local photographer, Tina Brecker, music was provided by Howard Wilson and Todd Zamarippa. The queen and court participate in Howard City activities throughout the year. In past years, the girls have served as judges for the local businesses scarecrow contest at Harvest Fest and for the Winterfest sculptures, helped out at Art in the Park, served at the librarys Father/ Daughter Teas, as well as participating in several area parades. Please join us on Saturday, September 17, for lots of fun at Howard Citys Harvest Festival.
steps are then added in with the music to make beautiful formations. The students were given lanyards to hold their notes in assisting them with their placement on the field. Sectionals is where each individual section: a) trumpets, b) clarinets, c) flutes, d) the pit, e) drum line, f) color guard, g) french horns, h) alto saxophones, and i) trombones, baritones and tuba of the marching band get together in
groups and work on drill, tune or practice fundamentals. The students then take what they learn in sectionals to music rehearsal, where all marching students get together and work on the music as a group. On Friday the students had wakeup call at 6 a.m., breakfast at 7 a.m., field rehearsal at 8 a.m., ate lunch at 11:40 a.m., loaded the bus immediately afterwards and were on the road home for Newaygo by 12:30
p.m. The students arrived back at the high school in time for a 7:15 p.m. warm-up and performance at 7:45 p.m. at Newaygo High School. A special thank you goes out to Sue Cornell for making all the arrangements to pull another successful band camp together, all the parents who donated items for camp, to the following chaperones for helping band camp run smoothly and effortlessly: Bruce and
Deb Iwema, Frank Janusz, Christine Shand, Colleen Ryman, Jim Harrington, Ron Barr, Harold Harper and Sally Garvin, and to the following instructors for working with our students: Andy Broekhuizen, Jill Swanson, Lacie Hoag, Megan Garvin, Jamie DeVoe, Kyle Morse, Tori Mundwiler, Danielle and Nick. This years performances will be led by Drum Majors Tyler Franks and Devin Flint.

Theres debt standard in Michigan: For a new home loan application in 2011, you can almost bet youll need a 20% down payment if your debt-toincome ratio is 35% or less. Youll need more of a down payment if your ratio is above 35%. To gure what amount you qualify for, multiply your monthly gross income by your debt-to-income ratio. For example, 50% of $3,000 per month income is $1,500. Subtract your monthly credit card payments and consumer loan payments to get what the bank believes you can afford on your monthly mortgage. If youre paying $600 per month on your credit cards and car loan, that leaves you $900 to make a house payment. The lender, or any ammortizer program (on your computer, or ask the bank, or go online) does the reverse calculation for you, using $900 as the monthly payment, and, say, 5% as the lenders mortgage interest rate, to determine what amount of a mortgage loan youll qualify for. How to improve that ratio? Bad ratio? Pay off your debts. Call each credit card company (the number is on the back of your card) and ask them to lower your cards interest rate. Point out that you make your payments on time. Be polite, but insistent. Call again and ask every three months. Sell that car if the monthly payment is over $275. And if you cant pay them off in a few months, stop using your credit cards altogether. Or youll be a renter forever.
