Resurrectio n and Life

Afterlife or life?

Overheard at a funeral
Imagine the scene of a funeral. The corpse is laying in the coffin or the ashes in the urn no one has any misgivings about what has happened: This person once animated, has ceased to live, at least on this earth You hear the following things said while youre having coffee at the reception afterwards: Hes in a better place now. I guess God needed another angel in heaven. You know, Grandma is always with you, looking over you. Well all be reunited one day.

What other clichs do we hear at funerals? Which do you believe are true and which are maybe not so true?

An Easter People
If a Lutheran pastor can have a favorite quote from a pope, this is mine: Do not abandon yourselves to despair. We are an Easter people and hallelujah is our song! - John Paul II Christianitys biggest celebration is not Christmas, its Easter. On Easter we see the proof of our hope, a proof that Paul says is absolutely necessary to hold for our faith.

Read I Corinthians 15:12-19

What all does Paul say is not true if Christ has not raised from the dead?

Resurrection Basics
There are a few elemental basics to understanding the concept of the Resurrection: Jesus Experience of Resurrection Jesus is the first (and so far only) person to have gone through the full cycle of death and resurrection. His experience of Resurrection as recorded in Scripture gives us defined clues as to our own Resurrection. Key texts include: Matthew 28:5-10 Luke 24:13-35, 36-43 John 20:11-18, 19-29 John 21:1-14 Scriptures Promise of Resurrection Scripture promises us an experience of Resurrection that is tied to Jesus Resurrection. Since He invited us into His life through the forgiveness of our sins, we live out His Resurrection with Him. John 5:19-29 Luke 20:27-40 Romans 6:1-11 Jesus Return and Judgment as Catalytic Event Jesus return is matched with the human experience of Resurrection. Before Jesus returns, earth waits for His glory to be revealed. Matthew 24 I Thessalonians 4:13-18 Revelation 20:11-21:8
