NOISE AND ITS ASSOCIATED EFFECTS.

Noise pollution, or environmental noise, is an unwanted sound that disrupts the activity or balance of everyday life. Most noise issues today stem from poor planning or engineering and can be easily avoided by taking the appropriate precautions early enough in the design stage. Noise problems can ultimately lead to health problems. Exposure to noise can damage physiological and psychological health. Noise pollution can cause annoyance and aggression, hypertension, high stress levels, tinnitus, hearing loss, sleep disturbances and other harmful effects. Furthermore, stress and hypertension are the leading causes to health problems, whereas tinnitus can lead to forgetfulness, severe depression and, at times, panic attacks.

SOUNDPROOFING.
Soundproofing is any means of reducing the sound pressure with respect to a specified sound source and receptor (noise control). There are several basic approaches to reducing sound, some of which include increasing the distance between source and receiver, using noise barriers to block/absorb the energy of the sound waves, or using damping structures. Soundproofing affects sound in two different ways: (1) noise reduction and (2) noise absorption. Noise reduction simply blocks the passage of sound waves through the use of distance and intervening objects in the sound path. Noise absorption operates by transforming the sound wave. Noise absorption involves suppressing echoes, reverberation, resonance and reflection. The damping characteristics of the materials it is made out of are important in noise absorption.

PROMAT PROMASOUND.
Promat Promasound insulation barriers have been designed with noise reduction and noise absorption in mind. Promasound is available in thicknesses ranging from 1mm to 5mm, covering a wide spectrum of acoustic mass requirements. This translates into Sound Transmission Classes ranging between STC28 and STC41. Promat Promasound is the one family of products to meet all your acoustical project needs.
