International Symposium on PETRO RETAIL REVOLUTION

January 07-08, 2005 Venue : Hotel LeMERIDIEN, New Delhi, India
Major oil companies in petro retailing business in India

Drilling & Exploration World (DEW) published from Dehradun, India is an internationally circulated energy journal, which focuses on the upstream and downstream activities of the oil and gas industry. In publication since 1989, the journal is appreciated by readers worldover for objective journalism, latest and up-to-date coverage of the energy and petroleum industry events. DEW holds the distinction of being the only MONTHLY Energy and Oil & Gas journal published from India and recognised by international technical societies like SPE, IADC, SPG. The journal is also Media Partners to some of the prominent international oil and gas events like the World Petroleum Congress (WPC)-UK, Offshore Technology Conference (OTC)-USA, PETROTECH-India, OSEA-Singapore and OGA-Malaysia. Please visit our website www.dewjournal.com for more details. It gives me pleasure in bringing to your notice that DEW journal is organising an International Symposium on Petro Retail Revolution at Hotel Le Meridien, New Delhi, India from 07-08 January 2005. The Symposium will be inaugurated by Indias Petroleum Minister while the Valedictory Session will be Chaired Hotel Le Meridien by the Secretary, Government of India, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas and attended by Chiefs of oil companies in addition to national and international experts. The Symposium is being organised in the backdrop of Government of Indias decision to approve and grant retail licences to setup new auto fuel retail outlets to the interested Public Sector Undertakings as well as private national and international oil companies to meet the growing energy demand of the country. As a result of this, a substantive new generation, hi-tech petro-retail outlets by both existing and new companies are coming up in India. The Symposium will hence focus on the changing face of auto fuel retailing business in India and the emerging challenges and opportunities in petro retail practices in the post APM deregulated scenario. India presently has, around 23,000 petrol stations in the country and an equal number of retail stations are proposed to be setup in next few years. The likely new big players of tomorrow in this sector are Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited -MRPL, Reliance Industries Limited, Shell India and Essar Oil besides the existing oil majors like IndianOil, IBP company, GAIL India Limited, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited.
Mr. S.C.Tripathi, IAS, Secretary, Government of India, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas will Chair the Valedictory Session

With no price differentiation, the petroleum products of oil companies which meet the best quality standards, with fuel stations having the best appearance, ambience, value-added services and cleanliness is going to be the preferred choice of the consumers. Hence, the need for urgent retail upgradation is seen inevitable. Today, oil companies are analysing every aspect of petro retailing in a renewed manner. It is not just a

cosmetic make-over they are eyeing, but a complete change, offering value-added services to the customers. The growth of the auto fuel retail stations would also open an estimated Rs. 10,000 crore market for non-fuel retailing business at petrol stations by the year 2009. Some of Indias biggest corporations are thus eyeing this huge market of non-fuel retailing business at petrol stations. With the objective to present an overview of, how the new revolutionised petro retailing business be in the coming years, DEW journal in association with major oil & gas companies and experts of the industry is organising this Symposium. The Symposium will have six Technical Sessions to be addressed by renowned experts of the industry covering the various facets of petro and non-petro retailing businesses. Technical papers presentation during the Symposium on the areas mentioned below under Issues on agenda are welcome. An Exhibition is also being planned to provide the participating companies, the maximum exposure to project their capabilities and services.
