Fundamentals and Design ASSIGNMENT: COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION You may earn up to 20 points for community participation by interacting with other members of the class, including your instructor, in a number of ways. Mix and match activities to compile your points, but participate at least once in each activity type. Activity types Comment on a classmates personal reflection for 1 point. o Comments should be substantive in both length (~100 words) and meaning; i.e., add to the reflection through constructive argumentation or elaboration. o You may certainly be complimentary in your commentary, but avoid idle flattery. If you want to tell someone she posted an AMAZING reflection, tell her exactly why it is amazing. Tweet course-relative information for 1/3 point per tweet (so yes, you have to tweet three times for a point.) o Establish a Twitter account if you dont already have one, and email your Twitter username to dhamerly@dom.edu. o Use the hashtag #lis75399 to tweet relevant resources or pithy wisdom related to the class. o Include @infodon in the tweet so that I can maintain a record of your tweets before they drop out of the twittersphere. Chat during a Blackboard (Bb) Collaborate session for 2 points. o You will have opportunities to participate in live, synchronous meetings online with other members of the class for discussion about various topics related to class. Bb Collaborate sessions will occur at different days and times throughout the semester based on input from members of the class. o A URL will be provided for each Bb Collaborate session. To use Bb Collaborate, you need to have an active Internet connection with audio output. A microphone and webcam are optional. A headset is helpful to avoid audio feedback. o Bring one key idea or quote from the readings to share and discuss during the session.

How often you should participate You can earn up to four (4) points during each of the following periods: 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) January 10 January 30 (by 9:00 A.M.) January 30 (after 9:00 A.M.) February 20 (by 9:00 A.M.) February 20 (after 9:00 A.M.) March 20 (by 9:00 A.M.) March 20 (after 9:00 A.M.) April 10 (by 9:00 A.M.) April 10 (after 9:00 A.M.) May 1 (by 9:00 A.M.)

What I will look for Comments: Concise, clear, constructive contributions to the reflections in writing that is personal but not colloquial, slang, or abbreviated Tweets: Posts that make full use of the medium, use abbreviated URLs (e.g., bit.ly), and contribute material relevant to the class Chat: Active participation in the conversation that contributes in ways that are relevant to the class (even in backchannel asides)
