Year 12 Media Studies Homework

Audience and Institution: Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part II Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II is about Harry, Ron and Hermione (the three major stars in the film) search for the few remaining Horcruxes so they can destroy them and end Voldemort once and for all. The Genre of the film is Adventure, Drama and Fantasy. Also I would think that many people would go and see Harry Potter no matter what you are, Teenager or Adult because I think it has a very wide marketed age group due to how well the films are known. The film is rated a 12A. Furthermore, the budget of the film (the price of making it) cost $30 million. The director of this film is David Yates, and this film is typical of their work as he has directed every Harry Potter film made so far. The three major stars in the film are Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) these are very well known actors because of the whole Harry Potter Franchise, and they have starred in all of the eight Harry Potter films that have been made. The producers of the film were Warner Bros. Studios which is now owned by Time Warner. Harry Potter had many different types of technology involved in the making of the film such as CGI, HDRI (High Dynamic Range Imagery) Photography, Maya (a 3D animating program) and more, but the filming of Harry Potter took place using an IMAX Digital 3D camera. Warner Bros. Studios again distributed the film as well as producing it and to this day Time Warner still owns Warner Bros. Studios. The films release date in the US was on 11 th July 2011 and in the UK it was on 7 th July 2011.

One example of how the film was marketed was by posters.

Another example of how the film was advertised or marketed was by Movie Trailers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_kDb-pRCds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=monOjieIgA4 Furthermore, one other way to show how the film was marketed would be by Movie Premiers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbA6YsvR7Gw

A fourth way of how the film was marketed would be a Billboard advertisement. For example this could go along the side of a bus.

And a final example of how the film could be marketed would be a bus stop billboard poster.

Sum up lifestyle in 5 words: Determined, Messy, neglected and depressed. Friends include: Ronan, Josh Interests: Finn likes to think that he is Waterloo Roads resident bad boy and therefore is usually up to no good around the area. He likes bossing other people around and mostly the year 10s. Motivation in most situations: He isnt very organised in most situations due to the fact that he thinks he will get away with it because he is known as the bad boy.

Love Life: Finn Sharkey is now in a relationship with Sam Kelly.

Problems in Life: Finn has many problems as he portrays himself to be very lonely, due to the fact that his parents are usual working away from home. He also does not have that many friends so he has to act all big because he is insecure. Key moment in drama/soap series: He has always caused Mischief among other students, but a big part he had to play was when he almost convinced his girlfriend into a suicide pact. Prediction for future narratives (storylines): I think that Finn will get too big for his boots and then get beat down as he acts fairly cocky around the school. How the audience is supposed to react to them? Explain View: They will react in various ways, as they might feel sorry for Finn or they could say it serves him right and that he need to be beaten down. How age is represented Task 3: Ronan Burley || Teens || usually wears school uniform along with a tie and a zip-up jacket || He is always selling things at school and has an attitude very much like a business man, he is also fairly jolly around school. Bolton Smilie || Teens A levels || wears school uniform, usually with a leather jacket unzipped, also fairly scruffy || He is known to be happiest when around his best mate Paul Langley and is considered around school to be a ladies man.

Analysing Magazines Task 4: Kerrang! Consider the Title of the Magazine The reason why Kerrang! Is called what it is, is because it has an onomatopoeic and therefore refers to the sound made when playing a power chord on an Electric Guitar. It is a one word title; this is significant because it stands out to an audience. The Publisher of the Magazine Kerrang! Magazine is published by Bauer Consumer Media, they also publish Q music magazine. The magazine costs 2.20 and is published every week on a Wednesday. The magazine also has a website http://www.kerrang.com/.

The target audience for the magazine

The target audience for Kerrang! Magazine would be around 14-20 year olds that are into various types of metal music. I know this because I am a reader of this magazine and I am within that age region. I also know this by the banner at the bottom of the magazine which tells you which bands are within it. There is a man on the front of the magazine looking straight at the reader, and this would draw people to look at the magazine.

The cover of the magazine On the cover of the magazine are five band members these are all wearing black clothing which gives a grunge look which would appeal to many teenagers as they will idolise this. The front man looks as though he is angry but this is what he wants you to think, therefore it is evident that he wants you to read on and read about him/his band. Other things appear on the cover such as a banner at the top of the page telling you that there are posters within the magazine. The price is also located on the front of the magazine in the bottom right-hand corner along with a barcode. Furthermore, it gives you a list down the left-hand side of the page on what information/bands are going to be inside the magazine. Some particular items featured are in the magazine because it will provide the audience with information or news that they can read up on, an example for this issue of the magazine would be the Reading/Leeds 2011 festival that has just past. In this issue there are various bright colours such as yellows, blues and reds this will be eye catching towards an audience and therefore attracting

them to look/read the magazine. Other features of the magazine are the graphics on the title, it looks as though the word Kerrang has been smashed into pieces of glass and this gives an alternate and edgy image. The title is already unique to any other magazine because it looks in the way that it does and also it isnt just a word, it has a meaning behind which would be the onomatopoeia, because like I explained, it refers to the sounds of an Electric Guitar power chord.

The style of presentation of the magazine I noticed that the presentation of the magazine is fairly dark but also vibrant this gives an alternate image and this is what the Kerrang! Magazine producers want. The Kerrang! Magazine doesnt exactly look cheap but neither that expensive I think they have purposely done this so it matches to their target audience. It compares with other similar magazine like Q and NME because it involves some of the types of music within the magazines, but it also shares a similar style as the NME magazine because they both have banners and posters within them. The mode of address of the magazine

One way it addresses its reader is how the front man is holding out his hand, as though to say come in. You can go on the website to address the magazine and write reviews. In this issue of Kerrang! The magazine has articles about the Reading and Leeds 2011 festivals. This issue covers interviews with various different bands and information about their new albums which are coming out.

Institution Magazines use straplines to tell the reader what the magazine has to offer. There has been various colours added to the front of the magazine, including pink and black this would create a punky sort of image. The font on the front cover is large and edgy which would suit the audience and genre because that is their style. The cover lines entice the reader by making you want to read on. The reason why they use the slogan LIFE IS LOUD is because it suits the reader and it gives a feeling of enjoying life as being loud is

associated with music. The master head displays a gothic woman which most teenagers boys and girls would look up to and idolise. The magazine also includes free stickers, this would obviously appeal to the audience because they are free and it is there sort of music. The bar code appears in the bottom righthand corner so the person at the scanner can easily scan the magazine.
