There is no make up for tests or the midterm exam, but with a university of Toronto medical certicate the weight of a missing test or the midterm exam will be added to the Final exam. 6. HOMEWORK: Problem sets are composed of a number of routine questions to ensure understanding of the fundamental ideas (which are minimum required for survival in the course) and a few more challenging questions. At this level students must use this opportunity to deepen their understanding of the course material by tackling the challenging questions. 7. RECOMMENDED READINGS AND EXTRA EXERCISES: The textbook is often brief in explanations and the backgrounds, and has a rather small number of exercises to deal with important ideas. Therefore we suggest that students attempt all the existing questions and make sure they understand the concepts involved with the help of the Tutorial leaders (who are ready to work on the exercises in the tutorial classes.) We will also post two types of reading material on the blackboard to deal with these issues: - there will be extra problems and readings, which will be classies as required reading, and posted on the required reading page of the blackboard, for which students will be responsible. Such exercises are not extra, but indeed they are derived from the body ot the textbook and/or they are relevant to the existing exercises of the textbook, and in some occasions they are some classic results which may be used later in the body of the text and/or exercises. It is important that students attempt these questions and extra readings.

3 - the extra optional readings that are heavy in volume, but they help understanding of the subject. These readings will be posted on the optional reading page in blackboard; these readings are mainly copies made from other textbooks to deal with + the necessary background (in case students need to review the relevant material which may not be readily accessible to them, + further explanation or elaboration on certain important concepts and techniques - list of sample questions and summary pages that will be posted towards a test or an exam. Such lists are intended, and are to be consulted, for practice and to bring certain across, and they are not necessarily similar to the test or exam questions. No lecture notes will posted on the blackboard, and all three lectures will try to be as close to the textbook and the notations of the textbook as possible.
