Congratulations on purchasing the Ativa MP3 Player with FM Tuner.

Before using the player please read this manual thoroughly. This manual will help guide you through the use of the many features available with the Ativa MP3 Player with FM Tuner, please keep for future reference.

This manual contains important safety information and operating instructions. Read the manual carefully before use to avoid any difficulties.

We assume no responsibility for the errors or omissions in this manual. We also have no responsibility for damages or loss of data caused by improper operation. Important Safety Precautions


Always follow these basic safety precautions when using your player. This will reduce the risk of product damage and personal injury. Do not disassemble, repair or modify the player by yourself. Refer servicing to qualified personnel. Do not dispose of the player in fire to avoid explosion because the player has built-in battery. Do not touch the player with bare hands if the built-in battery begins to leak. In the case of leakage, contact the Ativa Product support team. If any contact occurs to your body or clothing, wash thoroughly with water. If eye contact occurs, do not rub your eyes but immediately wash them with clean water and consult a doctor. Keep the player away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Do not expose the unit to rain or moisture to avoid any malfunction. Avoid usage in high static or magnetic environments to avoid interference and/or damage to the device Avoid striking or heavy impact to the player as damage to the device would likely occur. Disconnect the device from the computer when not in use. Cleaning should be done only with the device powered off and with a dry cloth. Always remember to back up your files. We will not be liable for the loss of data due to improper operation, repair or other causes. Precautions in using the earphone Do not use the earphones while operating an automobile or bicycle. It is not only dangerous, but also against the law. Its not recommended that you use the earphones at high volumes over and extended period of time as this may lead to hearing damage.

Connecting with the Computer


System requirements
You computer system must meet the following specifications: Pentium 350MHz or above Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista 120MB of available hard disk space USB port supported

Connecting player to computer


Files can be transferred directly into the player using the USB input. Make sure that your computer is powered on. Below is the procedure for connecting to your computer: 1. Locate the USB port on your computer. 2. Remove the USB cap of the player and insert the player into the USB port on your computer. 3. Your device manager will detect the player as New hardware and begin to install the drivers automatically Wait for the system to complete the installation. When complete, a new disk location will appear under the My Computer folder with the prefix Removable Disk.

Loading files to the player


To download the files from your computer, perform the following steps: 1. Open the Windows Explorer or My computer. Removable Disk is displayed.

Select the files on your computer and simply move them into the Removable Disk folder. This may be done either using your drag and drop or copy and paste functions. The files will begin to copy to your player. After copying is completed, the data will be available on the player. Please do not disconnect the USB cable during loading. It may cause malfunction of the player and the files.

Disconnecting the player


After completing the file transfer, please disconnect your player either through your device manager or the following way: 1 Double click the green arrow Safety Remove Hardware in the taskbar on the bottom right of the window. 2 Select USB Device and click Stop. 3 When the Stop a Hardware device appears, click OK to confirm. A confirmation window will appear stating it is now Safe to Remove Hardware. You may now remove your player from the USB port.

Charging the battery


The battery of the player will begin to charge automatically when the player is connected to the computer and the computer is on. It is recommended you fully charge your player first before using. The battery will be approximately 80-percent charged in about two hours and fully charged in about four hours. Charge time will be longer if the player is in use. indicates the battery is fully charged indicates the battery is low and should be recharged Important: Recommended temperature for battery charging is 0 to 35 .

Fully charge your player before using it for the first time or after extended periods of non use. If a Low battery message is displayed, your player must be charged immediately Do not over charge or discharge the player. Over charging or discharging will shorten the battery life. The battery could be over discharged if the player is not used for extended periods of time (over three months). To maintain the performance of the battery life, fully charge the player every two to three months and keep the battery level above 50%. If the player is not used for extended periods of time, keep it under the temperature of 235 maintain the performance of the battery. and moisture levels of 6520% RH to

Basic Operation
Turning on/off the player
To turn on the player, press and hold the [ ] button for two seconds. To turn off the player, press and hold the [ ] button until the Good Bye appears. Note: The player will turn off automatically if the player is idle for over 2 minutes. Also, the player will turn off automatically if the battery level is too low In order to save power, the backlight will turn off automatically if no button is pressed after 8 seconds.

Adjusting the volume


Push the joystick up [ ] or down [ ] to increase or decrease the volume. Note: If you push and hold the joystick upward or downward, the volume changes gradually.

Hold function
The hold function can help you lock all buttons to avoid accidental player operation. All buttons are locked automatically if no button is pressed after 2 minutes. To deactivate the lock function, press and hold the [ ] button for approx. 2 second.

Resetting the player


If the player malfunctions, use a metal pin like the end of a paper clip, and press it into the RESET hole to re-initialize the system of your player.

Selecting main menu or mode


The MP3 player has different modes. Press and hold the [M] button to enter the main menu. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select an item and press the [M] button to confirm your selection. All available options are listed in the below table.

Listening to Music
Turning on and playing
1. 2. 3. 4. Make sure the battery has been fully charged and the earphone is connected correctly. Press and hold the [ ] button to turn on the player. The DISPLAY will light up. The MP3 player enters Main menu with MSC highlighted by default. Press the [M] button to enter the Music mode. By default the player will be in STOP mode. Press the [ ] button to start playing the music.

Pausing playback
While a song is playing, press the [ ] button to pause playback. To resume playback, press the [ ] button once again.

Skipping tracks
Push the joystick left [] to skip to the previous track. Push the joystick right [ ] to skip to the next track.

Searching backward or forward within a track


Push and hold joystick left [] to search backward within a track. Touch and hold joystick right [ ] to search forward within a track. Once you release the joystick, playedback will resume from the searched point.

Setting repeat mode


While music is playing, you can select a repeat mode to enjoy the music in desired order. 1. 2. Press the [M] button while music is playing. The PlaySetting menu appears. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select Repeat and press the [M] button. The repeat menu appears. 3. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select the desired mode as below and press the [M] button to confirm and exit.

Normal: Play all saved music files in order once. Repeat One: Play the current or selected file repeatedly. Folder: Play all the files in the current folder in order once. Repeat folder: Play all the files in the current folder repeatedly. Repeat All: Play all the music files repeatedly. Random: Play all the files in the current folder in random. Note: To exit the PlaySetting menu and return to the playing menu, press the [ ] button.

Setting equalizer
While music is playing, you can select an equalizer setting from the eight available presets to best suit the type of audio output. 1. 2. Press the [M] button while music is playing. The PlaySetting menu appears. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select Equalizer and press the [M] button. The equalizer menu appears. 3. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select the desired equalizer setting: Nature, Rock, Pop, Classic, Soft, Jazz, DBB or SRS WOW. Press the [M] button to confirm and exit. Note: To exit the PlaySetting menu and return to the playing menu, press the [ ] button.

Navigating music files


In pause or stop mode, you can navigate through your audio files and select the desired file for playback. 1. 2. Press the [M] button in pause or stop mode. The MenuSetting menu appears. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select Local folder and press the [M] button. The folders or tracks in the Local folder appear. 3. Select the file you want to play. To navigate in the same directory, push the joystick left [] or right [ ]. To pen a folder, highlight it and press the [M] button. To return to previous directory, highlight the root of current directory and press the [M] button. To play a selected file, press the [M] button to return to the playback menu. 4. Press the [ ] button to start playback.

Note: To exit the MenuSetting menu and return to the playing menu, press the [ ] button.

Displaying lyrics synchronously


This player supports lyrics display during playback. Only the lyrics in LRC format can be displayed. To add lyrics to the music, perform the following steps: 1. Choose an MP3/WMA file, for example love music. Mp3. 2. Download the corresponding lyrics with the file format extension .lrc 3. Make sure the lyrics filename is the same as the music file name. For example love music.lrc 4. Copy both files into the same folder on the player. 5. Start playback of the music file. 6. Press and hold the [M] button while music is playing, the lyrics will be displayed on the screen synchronously. 7.

Note: If no corresponding lyrics found, pressing and holding the [M] button will return to the main menu. While displaying the lyrics, press the [M] button to return to the playback menu, or press and hold the [M] button to return to the main menu.

Recording Voice
In REC mode, you can activate the voice recording with the integrated microphone. 1. 2. Press and hold the [M] button to enter the main menu. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select REC mode and press the [M] button. The recording menu appears in STOP mode and is ready for recording. 3. Press the [ ] button to start recording. To pause the recording, press the [ ] button. To resume the recording, press the [ ] button again. 4. To save recording and return to main menu, press and hold the [M] button. The recorded files are saved in the RECORD folder of the MP3 player as WAV files (format: REC005.WAV) and can be listened to in the RPL mode. Note: If you want to save the current recording and start another recording soon, first pause the recording, then press and hold the [ ] button. The player will save the current recording and return to the recording menu. Voice recording is automatically stopped when the memory of the player is full or the battery power is no longer sufficient. Date that has been already recorded is automatically saved.

Setting the recording quality


Before you start recording, you can set the recording quality. 1. 2. Press and hold the [M] button to enter the main menu. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select REC mode and press the [M] button. The recording menu appears in STOP mode and is ready for recording. 3. 4. 5. Press the [M] button to enter the recording MenuSetting menu. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select REC type mode and press the [M] button. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select the recording quality between Long REC and Fine REC, and press the [M] button to confirm and return to the recording menu. Note: Setting recording quality to Fine REC will provide higher quality audio, however, the available recording time will be shortened.

Listening to Recordings
In RPL mode, you can listen to all recordings and manage your recorded files. 1. 2. Press and hold the [M] button to enter the main menu. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select RPL mode and press the [M] button. The voice playback menu appears in STOP mode. 3. Press the [ ] button to start playing the recorded files.

Note: To exit the Voice mode, press and hold the [M] button to return the main menu. File selected, file searched, and playback function in the Voice mode correspond to the functions in the Music mode.

Setting repeat mode


While a voice file is playing, you can select a repeat mode to review the recorded files in a desired order. 1. Press the [M] button while voice is playing. The PlaySetting menu appears. 2. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select Repeat and press the [M] button. The repeat menu appears. 3. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select the desired mode as below and press the [M] button to confirm and exit. Normal: Play all files in order once. Repeat One: Play the current or selected file repeatedly. Repeat All: Play all the files repeatedly. Note: To exit the PlaySetting menu and return to the playing menu, press the [ ] button.

Navigating voice files


In pause or stop mode, you can navigate all voice files and select desired file to play back. 1. 2. Press the [M] button in pause or stop mode. The MenuSetting menu appears. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select Local folder and press the [M] button. The

RECORD folder appears. 3. Press the [M] button to open the RECORD folder. 4. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select a voice file and press the [M] button to return to the playback menu. 5. Press the [ ] button to start playback. Note: To exit the MenuSetting menu and return to the playing menu, press the [ ] button.

Deleting voice files


While paused or stopped during playback, you can select a voice file to delete. 1. Press the [M] button in pause or stop mode. The MenuSetting menu appears. 2. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select Delete and press the [M] button. The Delete menu appears. 3. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select Yes to continue deleting or No to cancel deletion, and press the [M] button to confirm. Note: Deleted files cannot be restored so please back-up files accordingly

Listening to FM Radio
Important: Always connect your earphones to the earphone jack, since the earphone cable serves as antenna for the internal radio. 1. 2. Press and hold the [M] button to enter the main menu. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select FM and press the [M] button to enter the FM mode.

Manually searching a frequency


Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to search for the frequency you want.

Automatically searching a frequency


Push and hold the joystick left [] or right [ ] to automatically search forward or backward for radio stations with strong signals.

Storing a frequency
You can store and preset up to 20 stations in the players memory.

Press the [M] button after a desired frequency is searched. The MenuSetting menu appears. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select Save station and press the [M] button to confirm. The current station is saved and the player returns to the FM playback menu. The channel number of the saved station will be displayed on the screen.

Listening to stored stations


Press the [ ] button repeatedly to switch between stored stations.

Deleting stored stations


1. 2. Press the [ ] button to select the station you want to delete and press the [M] button. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select Delete? and press the [M] button to confirm deletion The stored station number is deleted.

FM recording
You can record the FM radio program at any time while listening to the FM radio. 1. 2. Press the [M] button to open the FM MenuSetting menu while listening to the FM radio. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select Record and press the [M] button. The FM recording menu appears and recording begins on the selected radio station. To pause the recording, press the [ ] button. To resume the recording, press the [ ] button again. 4. To save recording and return to the FM radio playback mode, press and hold the [M] button. The recorded files are saved in the RECORD folder of the MP3 player as WAV files (format: REC001.WAV, REC002.WAV) and can be listened to in the RPL mode. Note: If you want to save the current recording and start another recording soon, first pause the recording, then press and hold the [ ] button. The player will save the current recording and return to the recording menu. Press the [ ] button to start recording. FM recording is automatically stopped when the memory of the player is full or the battery power is no longer sufficient. Date that has been already recorded is automatically saved. Volume adjustment is not available during the recording.

Settings
The unit settings can be customized by accessing the Settings Menu. 1. 2. 3. Press and hold the [M] button to enter the main menu. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select SYS and press the [M] button to enter the Setting mode. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to navigate the setting mode. The available options include: System time, Brightness, Language, Memory info, Exit.

System time: To set the current date and time. Select the System time and press the [M] button. Push the joystick up [ ] or down [ ] to navigate between setting filed. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to change the setting value. Press the [M] button to confirm the setting and exit.

Brightness: To adjust the brightness of display. Select the Brightness and press the [M] button. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to adjust the brightness. Press the [M] button to confirm the setting and exit.

Language: To select a desired menu language.

Select the Language and press the [M] button. Push the joystick left [] or right [ ] to select the desired language. Press the [M] button to confirm the setting and exit.

Memory info: To check the free memory of the player.

Exit: To return to the main menu.

Troubleshooting
If you have problems in operating your player, please check the points below before contacting the Ativa Product Support Team. Cannot power on The battery may be exhausted and would require recharging the battery. Files cannot be downloaded Check the connection between the player and the computer No sound from the earphone Please ensure the volume is not 0 and the earphones are properly connected. Check to see if your earphones are functioning with other audio devices Check if the format of music file is supported by the player. Recording cannot be done Check if there is enough memory or battery capacity. Words appear abnormal in the LCD display Please ensure youve select the correct language. The buttons do not work Check if the buttons have been locked automatically. Press and hold the [ ] button to unlock the buttons. If unlocking does not work, RESET the player . Poor FM reception Check if the earphones are properly connected as the earphone cord functions as an antenna. Adjust the position of the player and earphone cord. Check if turning off other electrical devices in operation near your player improves reception. If effective, you may reduce the interference by using the player away from those electric devices.
