Subject: Approval for Plantation of Karanj (Pongamia) in disease pruned area at our Jatropha planted field of village Mohanbhata, Tehsil: Takhatpur on a experimental trial basis. 1. Background: Plantation of Jatropha plants were taken over for maintenance at Village Mohanbhata (Area: 50) Ha), Tehsil: Takhatpur by ICBL in the year 2009-10. Simultaneously scheduled activities were performed by the field team in support of the vendor. The entire plot of Mohanbhata is divided in three parts. The field is surrounded by two villages namely Bharari and Mohanbhata. Some of the parts are covered with big trees such as Eucalyptus, Amla etc and small bamboo bushes. Soil is red lateritic and topography is plain. Occurrence of disease has been observed in the plot in last two years. It speeded very fast and majority of the plot was affected resulting huge mortality of the standing Jatropha crop. Successful measures were taken by the entire ICBL team to prevent the disease with suitable therapeutic measures and the spreading of disease was checked. 2. Proposal: During soil testing is was found that the soil is full of pathogens which become active during high temperature. Thus some of the areas where disease occurrence was spotted earlier may be replaced with other oil seed tree such as Karanj (Pongamia). It will add few advantages like diversification of crops removing the affect of monoculture and may control the reoccurrence of disease to some extent. A GPS map has been attached as Annex: (I) marking the area of Karanj plantation where, it can be planted at a spacing of 8m * 8m. A wide search has been done by the field team of Bilaspur and through scouting at nearby places, Karanj saplings were found present for selling purpose at Indira Amrai Van Ropni (Forest Division, Bilaspur). A copy of price of saplings received from the same has been attached as Annex 2. 3. Financial Implication: The area which has been proposed for Karanj plantation this year is approximately 4Ha. At a spacing of 8m* 8m a total of 625 Pongamia plants can be planted in the same area. To reduce the cost of transportation project vehicle will be used and plantation will be carried with the help of Watch and Ward present in the field. However the payment will be done on actual basis.

As per circular resolution dated 09.09.2010, CEO is authorized to approve.

5. Approval Sought

If agreed with the proposal, approval is sought from the competent authority for the following: Plantation of Karanj (Pongamia) on the demarcated area on the following GPS map as a replacement of host and diversification of the field to reduce the affect of monoculture effect of Jatropha plants and minimize the occurrence of disease infestation. Approval for Rs 3625 (Three Thousand Six Hundred and Twenty Five Only) for the plantation of Karanj in selected area of Jatropha planted Mohanbhata site.
