MARITIME ENGLISH FOR RATINGS AND OFFICERS

(In-House Course)
COURSE DESCRIPTION The training program is designed primarily for all shipboard personnel. It deals with the principles of Standard English consisting of grammar & skills, vocabulary, terminologies, standard communication phrases used in the maritime environment. The course aims to provide awareness to trainees of their responsibilities to promote understanding and camaraderie on board vessels and contribute to maritime safety. OBJECTIVE Participants who successfully complete the training course should be capable to relate with other seafarers of different nationalities and lessen the language barrier among them. They will be aware of their responsibilities to promote understanding and camaraderie on board the vessel and contribute to marine safety. The principal aim of the course is to develop awareness in the significance of English to the Filipino Seafarers, acquire skills to be able to communicate effectively using the English language not only in the maritime profession, but also in other fields of endeavor. ENTRY STANDARDS Those enrolling the course may or may not have experience, but individuals, agency representatives involved in education and training, recruitment, selection, and development of maritime manpower are also suitable. Those who are about to enter the profession or new entrants to join the experienced participants should be made known to the instructor. CERTIFICATION As authorized by the Maritime Training Council pursuant to the provisions of MTC Resolution No. 03, series of 1998 and for having been assessed by a qualified assessor in accordance with the approved method and criteria. INCLUDED TOPICS Communication Process, Ship's Nomenclature, Grammar Review, Basic Maritime Correspondence, Maritime Vocabulary Building, SMCP Emergency Phrase, and GMDSS Messages.
Duration: 5 Days Training Venue: Victoria Building Schedule: Starts every Monday & Tuesday 7am-2pn and 2pm-6pm
