BASIC RULES

Short adjectives:
adjective + est
Examples: fast - the fastest

high the highest

strong the strongest

Short adjectives ending in vowel + consonant:

adjective + double consonant +est
Examples: big - the biggest
hot the hottest
fat the fattest
Adjectives ending in -y:
(y i) + est
Examples: funny - the funniest happy the happiest sunny the sunniest
Long adjectives:
the most + adjective
Examples: beautiful - the most beautiful

Irregular adjectives:
the best
the worst

NOTE: Always add THE before the adjective

the biggest - the most expensive
DO NOT double the last consonant in adjectives ending
in W ( slow the slowest ) NOT the slowwest
DO NOT double the consonant when it has two vowels
before (cheap the cheapest) NOT the cheappest
