Course Requirements: 1. Attendance: Not less than 80% attendance is required in this course. Participation is 25% of the overall grade for this course. Individual response to questions or cases related to recently discussed topic should be posted to http://parlindunganpardede.wordpress.com/category/research/ not later than three days after the class presenting the topic. 3. Reading Assignments. Please make sure you read all the assigned works regularly for it will enable you to master the class materials and finish the assignments. 4. Evaluation: Evaluation is based on three items: (a) weekly responses posted to the blog (20%); (b) Mid-Term Assignment (30%), i.e. a critique of a quantitative/or a qualitative research article; and (c) Final-Semester Assignment (50%),writing a research proposal. You are advised to show me the article you have selected before doing the critique. The following guidelines should be followed: (a) Article should be an empirical study (i.e. with quantitative data presented in tables, graphs and statistically analyzed using t-test, chi-square, ANOVA, percentages, etc) in a peer-reviewed language teaching journal (not in a magazine, the newspaper, book, or internet papers or articles which are not peer-reviewed; (b) articles should be related to your field of specialization, i.e. English language teaching; (c) the critique should be about 6-10 pages (double spacing) and use the format outlined in the CRITIQUE GUIDELINES; and (d) a copy of the article is attached as an appendix to the critique. The proposal to be submitted as the final semester assignment should explicitly show your ability to write a comprehensive research proposal which describes your intended topic of study, the methods of data collection, the theoretical framework and review of related literature. It should be in about 16-20 pages and follow the format outlined in the RESEARCH PROPOSAL GUIDELINES 5. Grading Scale: 100-80 A; 79.9-75 A-; 74.9-70.0 B+; 69.9-65 B; 64.9-60 B-; 59.9-55 C; 50-54.9 C-; 45-49.9 D; below 45 E.
