Who Have You Invited?

We are now just one week away from our 2011 Gospel Meeting. I hope you have noticed the back page of the bulletin, where we have placed an ad for the meeting for the last 3 weeks. Included on that page have been the sermon topics that brother Eddy Craft will be presenting. Take a look at them, and be praying for him as our speaker, and for all who will visit during the four days.
Worship With Us Sunday: Worship 9 AM & 6 PM * Bible Classes 10:20 AM Wednesday: Bible Classes 7 PM

Adam Faughn
I want to thank Mark Pugh for organizing the special 9/11 devotional service last Sunday morning. His words were poignant, and all who helped out made the time together meaningful. About 70 of us were present for that 8:30 time, and all of us were touched by the time spent remembering and reflecting. On Saturday (September 24), our elders, deacons, and preachers will have their annual retreat. We have already started some of the work on goals for 2012, but there is a lot to be accomplished on this day. Please take a few moments and pray for the success of this day. Pray for our wisdom as we consider the congregation and what we can do to continue to teach many about Jesus. Though we are looking toward 2012, our 2011 theme is still active. We are continuing to strive for Greater Things. Will you help as we strive to live that theme for these last few months of the year?

Gospel Meeting

East Tennessee Evangelist Eddy Craft will conduct a 4-day Gospel Meeting September 25-28. Craft is the host of a weekly television program, Biblical Viewpoints, that airs in Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, and Mississippi. He also hosts a weekly radio program, Arise To Truth, that is aired over several radio stations. Everyone Is Welcome!

Seeking Jesus
Sunday 9AM: Three Days Without Jesus Bible Study: Wise Men Still Seek Jesus Sunday 6PM: Jesus: The Light Of The World Monday 7PM: Jesus' Baptism Tuesday 7PM: Jesus' Death Wednesday 7PM: Jesus' Resurrection

But, for folks to visit, we must invite! Who have you invited? Postcards and flyers are available in the foyer and downstairs, and they are for your use. Take them and give them out in your neighborhood, or to friends wherever you meet them. There is also a Facebook event page for our Gospel Meeting where you can invite folks and remind others of the dates and times. There is still a week to go, which means there is still a week to invite anyone and everyone you can. Lets get to the work! To help us with that, I am planning two sermons today about seeking prospects and about what we need to be if we are to be effective in inviting people. I hope you will make sure you are here for both lessons.

PRAYER
Prayer is one of my favorite subjects. I pray when Im lonely, I pray when Im happy. I even pray when Im down in the dumps. I pray before I go to bed, or before I eat. It seems like I just pray all the time. I pray for things I would love to have, but sometimes I dont get what I want. I even pray for others. And I even pray for me to do whats right in all the days. I think prayer helps a lot. It helps when you are sad or mad, or whatever. I pray because I think it helps a whole bunch. When I pray I know that he hears all my prayers. When I pray I expect them to be answered how Jesus and God would want them to be. I hope I go to heaven when my Jesus Christ comes to carry all the Christians home to the beautiful home up in heaven. (Written by a precious 10 year old.)

"Except you be converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 18.3). Hello everyone, I hope you are having a great week! We had a wonderful youth devotional at the Buckner home last Sunday. I want to thank our young people for singing so wonderfully and behaving so well. I love you guys! Have you ever wondered why Jesus said things like become as little children ( Matthew 18.3) or suffer the little children (Matthew 19.14)? I have often thought of why exactly Jesus told us to be like little children. It seems preposterous to desire a childlike attitude but in the mind of Jesus it was a beautiful thing. James David is only five years old, but he was so excited about our hosting the devotional last sunday evening. He asked me all week if he could lead the prayer or sing a song or give eating instructions. James David wanted to do anything and everything that he could possibly do for our devo. Finally I agreed to let James David lead the prayer before we ate pizza. He was so excited to be participating in the devotional. When it came time for him to pray, we bowed our heads, closed our eyes, and he prayed, "Dear heavenly Father, thank you for this world. Thank you for your beautiful creation... Please be with the people who crashed the planes into the skyscraper. Please be with the people who are still alive, but hurting... Thank you for our food. In Jesus name, amen." "Except you become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven." --JD

SUNDAY EVENING PRAYER

Almighty God, as I sit here tonight, surrounded by newspapers and half watching television, it has just come to me that I have LIED to Thee and to myself. I said I was too tired to go to church tonight. That was not true. I would have gone to a baseball game, P.T.A., or any other place I had wanted to go. Being too tired seemed to cover up my indifference. God, have mercy on me; I have LIED to Thee and to myself. I am not too tired; I am too INDIFFERENCT. Warm my cold heart, O God. For that is the real reason why I stayed home. ---AMEN (Selected)
