Bharti Telesoft Products on Red Hat AppSMSC

Short Message Service (SMS) continues to be the most popular data application in the mobile network services market. The growing use of SMS as an application traffic bearer has changed the nature of traffic flowing over the network. Conventional message transport infrastructure, primarily meant to handle nonburst mode, person-to person (P2P) traffic, must now expand to accommodate high-volume application-toperson (A2P) traffic flows. With operators needing to provide a comprehensive range of data services to differentiate their offerings in the market, network capacity requirements can overwhelm current SMSC resources, which are not designed to handle traffic spikes. Bharti Telesofts AppSMSC is a dedicated message center to process and deliver intra-network and internetwork application message traffic. The system allows cross-network message transmission via long number allocation to applications. To meet varying performance requirements for multiple classes of applications, the system supports multiple delivery modes including store and forward as well as first delivery attempt for latency-sensitive, real-time applications such as news alerts and televoting. Reduction in message buffers and functional independence of A2P message streams from P2P SMS flows on the network, optimizes throughput, safeguards SMS infrastructure against overloads and secures QoS for all traffic classes. GUI-based Application Provisioning and Management framework enables immediate service provisioning and deployment, allowing operators to rapidly deploy and manage applications on the network. AppSMSC is built on modular standards-based architecture to ensure seamless network integration. The support for multiple standard APIs enables seamless integration with popular, applications such as televoting as well as heterogeneous MSC nodes.

AppSMSC Architecture

Comment Enterprise Linux Atul Madan, VP VAS, Bharti Telesoft, remarks, High traffic volumes characterize A2P messaging but the revenue generated from each message is lower than P2P messaging. Price-performance benefits assume critical significance for operators deploying the AppSMSC. AppMMSC
Application-to-Person (A2P) messaging is driving the take-up of Mobile Multimedia Services (MMS). Advances in high-speed network bandwidth, the proliferation of smart handsets, and the increasing acceptance of the mobile phone as a lifestyle device make MMS an ideal way for third party content providers to deliver rich multimedia content services. However, operators face a challenge, as these services add new levels of complexity to message distribution - A2P traffic involves sending one message to many subscribers, is typically bursty and when associated with time-sensitive bulk events, requires highly scalable infrastructure to achieve prompt message delivery. Bharti Telesofts AppMMSC provides high-performing, high-capacity multimedia messaging for mass-scale distribution of revenue-generating lifestyle multimedia broadcasts such as video clips and audio snippets. A dedicated transport infrastructure efficiently processes bursty A2P multimedia traffic, reducing the load on the primary MMSC that mainly handles P2P MMS traffic Inbuilt routing algorithms efficiently regulate the scheduling, buffering, and delivery of application traffic flow over the network. In addition, a web-based framework simplifies application management and provisioning for rapid content rollout and user related profiling, which includes device type to adapt content to the handsets capabilities as well as to determine the delivery destination - the hansdet or an online MMBox. The underlying high-performance Multimedia Message Delivery and Management Platform can be easily integrated with existing network infrastructure (WAP, SMS, Billing, Prepaid systems etc.), regardless of the vendor and third party applications. Comment Enterprise Linux Atul Madan, VP VAS at Bharti Telesoft comments, A2P multimedia messaging is a growing revenue segment and operators are introducing compelling multimedia applications in line with evolving consumption patterns.
