SIMATIC ProTool/Pro
Version 6.0 of the PC-based Visualization System
Product Brief
SIMATIC ProTool/Pro is the software you need when it comes to on-site PC-based visualization. At the heart of the new version 6.0 of ProTool/Pro are reductions in engineering time and costs. This is attained by consistent expansion of the synergy effects of Totally Integrated Automation, and through an even easier-to-use configuring system, guaranteeing further increases in efficiency. A host of innovative runtime functions as well as new communication channels extend the ProTool/Pro application scope. The highlights of version 6.0: Improved STEP 7 integration Even more improved data connection to STEP 7 Transfer of the complete variable name from the STEP 7 symbol editor Generation, download and starting of HMI projects using STEP 7 More user-friendly configuring Export/import of all text to facilitate translation, for example Conversion of projects with different display resolutions Improved picture editor and simulator Integrated project download over the network Function for replacing project sections New runtime functions Support for new resolutions (1280 x 1024, 1600 x 1200) Curve graphics with read line 5 runtime languages online and up to 32 languages per project Graphical selection field Improved recipe system with arrays, password protection and automated triggering Expanded reporting and alarm logging system New communications channels and much more ...

Increase in configuring efficiency

Optimized Access to STEP 7 symbol list

Totally Integrated Automation Version 6.0 strengthens the already close links between ProTool/Pro configuring and the STEP 7 world, thus consistently developing the synergy potential of Totally Integrated Automation. Enhanced integration of process variables from the STEP 7 database: ProTool/Pro Configuration (CS) applies the full variable names generated in the STEP 7 symbol editor, including special characters. Access to the STEP 7 variables is even easier and faster using a special variable browser. Tooltips display all variable information, including the original address, in all affected ProTool/Pro CS dialogs. References are retained or are resynchronized using automatic mechanisms, even in the case of a controller change in STEP 7. Controllability of ProTool/Pro in the STEP 7 Manager: An HMI project can, for example, be transferred directly to the target system using the STEP 7 Manager. And this can be done without previously having to start ProTool/ Pro. The project is generated automatically in the background.

Simulation of a Panel PC 670 10"

Export/import of all text ProTool/Pro V6.0 enables the export and import of all texts in a project. In the case of projects with several runtime languages, the exported texts can be passed on for translation and then re-imported. This has the following benefits: The project can be fully created and tested in one language. Configuring engineers are offloaded, since they only have to create the interface in a language familiar to them. The translator can work on the texts outside ProTool/Pro using standard editors. Completeness and consistency of the translated texts are guaranteed. Converting projects ProTool/Pro is a scalable system that offers optimal support when changing the target system. Converting a configuration for a target device with a higher or lower screen resolution (e.g. Panel PC 670 10" to 15") takes only a few steps. All picture contents are zoomed to the new resolution. The function encompasses all graphical devices that can be configured in ProTool/Pro. It is also possible to convert a panel configuration (e.g. OP37, MP270 or MP370) in the direction of PC-based target devices. Complete simulation of the configuration A configuration can now be fully simulated, quickly and efficiently, using just the configuring computer. The HMI target system is fully represented on the configuring computer. The softkeys or function keys of the device are easy to operate using the mouse. The SIMATIC Engineering Tool S7PLCSIM handles simulation of the controller hardware and animates the variables.

Runtime functions

New resolutions ProTool/Pro V6.0 also supports PC target systems with a resolution of 1280 x 1024 (SXGA) and 1600 x 1200. Curve graphics with read line Trends and archive curves can now be evaluated with the help of the read line. This can be moved horizontally in the curve graphic. The values where the read line dissects the curve can be output in the form of a table. Language genius ProTool/Pro Runtime now allows up to 5 online languages. Up to 32 languages can be managed in one project. This reduces handling and configuring costs since, for example, export-oriented machine builders require only one configuration for several target countries. Graphical selection field This new picture object constitutes a user-friendly graphical input method. The operator makes a selection from a list of symbols, allowing configuration to be carried out independently of language.

More user-friendly recipe handling Recipes can now be structured more easily and quickly with the help of arrays. A display configuration can be created for managing the data records. Return values in the case of recipes enable automatic triggering with scripts. The data record names can be transferred using character strings. This makes it possible, for example, for the controller to automatically save data records based on data record names specified by production planning systems. Recipes can now be passwordprotected against unauthorized access; in this case, the user has read only access.

Expanded alarm logging system Output of messages now also with fault location and time stamp in ms: this means the operator can easily assign a message to, say, a technological unit such as a conveyor belt. Chronological alarm logging is possible with the help of the Alarm_S system. Message archives can also be filled directly with message texts: This means that without any additional overhead, it is possible to evaluate the message archive in plain text using external tools (e.g. MS Access). New reporting methods Reporting of message archives: The extract of the archive can be fixed or specified dynamically by means of a variable. Reporting of recipe data records (recipe data records that were previously defined or defined dynamically using variables).

Servicefunctions

Innovations in all areas

Configuring Computer
Ethernet/MPI/Profibus-DP

Version 6.0 of ProTool/Pro offers a large number of other innovations that provide you with optimal support in creating your visualization: Direct modification of grouped objects without breaking up the groupings Copying of softkeys and function keys

ProTool/Pro Runtime OP 270 TP 270

Simple selection of overlapping objects Function for the export/import of all recipes/data records Passwords with user name option Change connection to S7 controller at runtime

Homogenous download of configurations

Integrated project download If a visualization PC is connected to a network such as MPI, Profibus-DP or Ethernet, the configuration can now be downloaded as in the case of the SIMATIC Panels. So the ProTool family now has a uniform mechanism that significantly simplifies and accelerates service and startup. Replacing project sections Upgrading an existing project can be handled in just a few steps with the Replace function. Objects with the same name such as pictures or parts of pictures, variables or scripts of the revised project are simply overwritten in the existing project (e.g. the project used on the machine).

Onscreen keyboard can also be used for key devices with mouse support Revised quantity structure (e.g. text lists with up to 3500 entries) Integration of ProTool/Pro Runtime into the PC station of STEP 7 Integration of ProTool/Pro into STEP 7 Lite Integration of ProTool/Pro into the SIMATIC iMap Engineering Tool Integration of ProTool/Pro into the SIMOTION SCOUT Engineering Tool and much more ...
