Case Number 2 Internal and External Goal Alignment at Texas Instruments

Question: 1. What are the strengths and limitations of the catchball process for achieving organizational alignment? Answer: The strengths of the cathball process is that it integrates the members of the organization either vertically or horizontally. Everyone is involve in the organization to work as a team so that they can produce a better results but of course there are also limitations and that is how to communicate the organizations goal to each and everyone and the conflicts that might happen inside the organization.

2. Using your knowledge of management by objectives, comment on the following analysis of the catchball process by Gary Siegel, of DePaul University: Ideas generated at one level of an organization are passed up or down to people at other organization levels. Those receiving the idea catch it, modify it so that it is relevant to the work done at their level, and pass it along to another level. This called catchball. A major benefit of catchball is that it helps to vertically integrate an organization. Communication is enhanced, people participate in developing ideas, and when the ideas are implemented, the chances of success are high because people at all levels in the organization shaped it so that it would work best in their environment. Each person will know how his or her work relates to the strategic and tactical operation of the business ... [and] crossfunctional teams work better if the organization is first vertically integrated. Answer: According to Gary Siegel catchball is a process wherein it vertically integrate an organization for the purpose of making all of them involved in developing ideas and implementing it. I find his analysis right, because the kind of strategy really work well as I relate the case of Texas Instruments, top managers and their subordinates work together to formulate a goal and the course of action to be taken to and I can say that the catchball achieve it.Fits especially to large organizations although it requires great efforts to link them all together.

3. What requirements for effective management of the system system organization are illustrated by the management of the joint Standoff Weapon System Program? Answer: Requirements are first, comprised number of organization that will be working on the project. Second build a team with trust. Third determine the align goals and gain pride in our goals and most of all make yourself committed to your goals.

4. What principles of managing alliances are illustrated by the management of Joint Weapon System Program? Answer: Principle of coordination or teamwork, it states that whatever goals we have we need to work together to achieve them and let`s not tolerate any conflicts instead remind them again of what we are working for or that we are here to work and not to fight.
