Minimum system requirements

IBM-PC compatible computer Visual Studio .NET 2003 or Visual Basic .NET 2003 or Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 (Service Pack 3 or later required for Windows 95/98/ME users.) Visual Basic Working Model & Learning Edition are not supported. Intel Pentium II class or equivalent processor, 450 MHz or faster Windows 2000, 2000 Professonal (SP3), 2000 Server (SP3), XP, XP Pro, or XP Home operating system 96 MB of RAM VGA adapter with 256 colors (16-bit color recommended) 40 MB available hard drive space Serial or USB ports, as needed Palm Desktop, Microsoft ActiveSync, Nokia PC Suite, or PC Suite for P800/P900 are required depending on the version of Crossfire you are using, as well as the devices you are planning to support. Windows 2000 users may upgrade their version of Windows Installer by using the 'Download NT, 2000 Windows Installer' link above, although, this is not required for AppForge.)
Installation Instructions
1. 2. Verify that your system meets the minimum requirements shown above. If you have a previous version of AppForge Software on your system, you must uninstall it prior to installing this new version. If you downloaded AppForge Crossfire from the Internet, change to the directory that Crossfire56.exe and run it. If installing from a CD, Insert the CD. An HTML Installation page will appear in your browser. Click the Install link at the bottom of the screen. (* If the autorun program doesnt start, manually run the Crossfire56CD.exe) When prompted, click 'Next' to continue READ and ACCEPT the terms of the End User License Agreement, and click Next.

7. You will then be presented with two installation options: Complete or Custom. Complete installs support for Microsoft Visual Studio.NET and Visual Basic 6. Custom allows you to select from these options. Please choose setup of your choice. When prompted, verify the installation location and click Install. This step takes approximately 10 minutes. An 'AppForge Client Installation Tool' window will open. Follow the instructions shown in the window.

10. After completing the booster install, you will be returned to the current Crossfire installation dialog box. Click the Next button to continue. 11. Click the Finish button to exit the Setup Wizard.
Activation Information
Obtaining Your Product Key
A product key is required to use AppForge products. There are several ways to obtain a product key. If you purchased your product from the AppForge web site, through a member of the AppForge sales team, or through a reseller, you should receive a product key in an Email after the purchase is completed. Visit http://www.appforge.com/eval for details on evaluating Crossfire.
Entering Your Product Key

Note: You must first install AppForge Crossfire before you can enter your product key. To enter your product key, you must first start Visual Studio .NET or Visual Studio 6. Once you have done this you will see an AppForge menu (see Figure 1). http://support.appforge.com 5
Figure 1 - Start the Activation Process Next, select the Product Activation... menu item from the AppForge menu. This brings up the AppForge Activation Window (see Figure 3)

Entering Activation Information

Enter your product key at the top of the AppForge Activation Window (Figure 3) and fill in the all of the required fields (denoted by the *). Note: You should have received an email containing the Product Key being requested in this form. Once you have filled out all of the required fields, the Activate Electronically and Activate Manually buttons will be enabled. To proceed with the activation process, click on the Activate Electronically or Activate Manually button. Note: If you wish to activate at a later time, click on the Activate Later button.
Activating Electronically
This is the fastest and easiest method of activating your product. If you click on the Activate Electronically button, a status window
AppForge Quick Start Guide will appear. AppForge is electronically activating your product across a secure connection. Once activation is complete, you will see a successful activation message. This means your AppForge product has been successfully activated and you are ready to develop Crossfire applications. If an error occurs, first make sure all of the information you have entered in the Activation Window is correct, and then attempt to activate again by clicking the Activate Electronically button. If you are still having difficulties, you may need to activate manually. The following section walks you through manual activation.
Activating Manually
Use this option when you are unable to Activate Electronically. If you click on the Activate Manually button, the Manual Activation Window should appear.

Activating by Email
To activate by Email, click on the Activate By Email button. This opens the Email Activation Window. (see Figure 5) In this window you will see instructions for activating by Email and a scrollable text box containing all of the information you will need for Email activation. We recommend copying and pasting the information contained in the text directly into your Email. After you have Emailed your activation information you will receive a valid activation key via Email within 2 business days. http://support.appforge.com 9

Activating by Phone
To activate by Telephone, call one of telephone numbers listed below the Activate By Telephone option. (Option 2) Make sure to call within the specified time, and be prepared to supply your Validation Key (see Figure 4) and other contact information. An AppForge customer service representative will provide you with a valid Activation Key, you must enter the Activation Key into the text box at the bottom of the Manual Activation Window (see Figure 4). Next click the OK button. If you have properly entered the Activation Key, you will see a status window indicating that you have successfully activated your product. If you receive an error message and have entered the Activation Key properly, please contact AppForge at one of the numbers listed in the Manual Activation window (see Figure 4).

Deploying a Sample Application

First we'll pick a sample project and open it up in the IDE: 1. 2. 3. 4. Start Visual Stuio.NET or Visual Basic 6.0 Select File/Open Project Select the AppForge menu, and open the Samples and Tutorial option. Choose a sample/tutorial from any of the categories or choose the Open Samples Directory. The project will open in the IDE. To run the project in the IDE, press F5 or click the Run button in the toolbar, just as you would for a VB.NET or VB6 program. Now let's deploy the sample to your handheld device: 1. 2. 3.
