How was your trip from America? Leverton: Well, I left New York before Christmas and spent Christmas Day with my parents in Boston. Then I celebrated New Years Eve with my sister and brother who live in Salem. The next day I left Boston harbour on the new steamship American Star. Gregson: Last year I sailed from New York to Liverpool on the same ship and it took me 25 long days. It was a bad trip with terrible weather. How long did it take you? Leverton: Well, it usually takes 15 days to cross the Atlantic because this new steamship is fast. But this time we stopped in Newfoundland and Ireland to pick up some passengers so it took us 5 extra days. Gregson: Do you like travelling by sea? Leverton: Oh, I love the sea! I was born in Boston and thats right on the Atlantic Ocean. Its a great city with lots of things to do, but the weather is cold and wet most of the year, except for a short, hot summer. I like travelling by train, by horse and by horse and carriage, too. I took the train across the American continent last year. I had to arrest a criminal in San Francisco. Gregson: I love the sea too. My family has a house and a little fishing boat in my hometown in Scotland. If youre free this weekend, we can take the train and go fishing there.

Leverton: Thanks! I would love to go. Gregson: Good! Ill pick you up early Saturday morning. Leverton: My hotel is near Piccadilly Circus but we can meet at Kings Cross station. Gregson: Well, its easier if I pick you up at your hotel at half past seven and then we can go to the station together. Leverton: Sounds good, Gregson!
