1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 GENERAL
Between September and November 2006, a modification phase took place on the
DLB Acergy Polaris. The main steps were :
- the installation of a new J-Lay Tower system
- the upgrade of the power generation.

Therefore the purpose of this document is to update the barge power balance
analysis.

NJL-0074 J-Lay Tower – Load Balance Analysis

2. CONSUMERS
2.1 GENERAL
A load analysis, which has been performed on the Polaris early 2004, can be
considered as the realistic load balance for the exposed modes of operation. From
this study and taking into account recent change on the barge, J-Lay has to be
considered as this mode, especially due to the new tower, is the biggest consumer.

So hereafter is a detail list of main consumers of the barge.

2.2 BARGE REQUIREMENTS

Basing on the load analysis performed on the barge in 2004, we can estimate the
electrical power required by the barge at 1 100 kW.

Barge Requirements
Equipment Power Comment
Barge Service 1 100 kW
TOTAL 1 100 kW

2.3 ROV REQUIREMENTS

Two ROVs are currently in use on the Polaris. In normal use, electrical power needs
are the sum of the ROV requirement and of its HPU Winch, used to move ROV up
and down. Two winches are installed on the Polaris deck, one for each ROV.

In normal use, requirements are currently as follow:

ROV Electrical Requirements

Equipment Power Comment
ROV Scv29 400 kW ROV power + winch
(185kW+215kW)
ROV Scv30 185 kW ROV power only
TOTAL 585 kW

Notes:
- We generally do not use both winches at the same time
- When a ROV is moved up by a winch, it still need to be fed
- The installation of a third ROV in not confirmed yet

2.4 J-LAY REQUIREMENTS

The J-Lay Tower system (Huisman + Engineering Business manufactured) requires
the following power according to the operating mode :

J-lay Tower System Electrical Requirements

Equipment Power Comment
DJ hoisted with drawworks 1800kW

Catenary hoisted with drawworks 2250kW

Welding + FJC 1450kW

Abandonment with A&R winch 1100kW

Recovery with A&R winch 2250kW

The normal mode is the chain of DJ hoisted with drawworks, Catenary hoisted with
drawworks and welding and coating.

2.5 ELECTRICAL THRUSTERS REQUIREMENTS

The two tunnel thrusters require 1 700 kW each at 100%, i.e. 3 400 kW. They
cannot be used at 100% nowadays. So we need to see their percentage of possible
use depending on the Jlay Tower power consumption.

The three new Wartsila generator sets installed in the generator room are of
1589kW type.
The two existing Caterpillar installed in the Crane tub are of 1440kW type.

The following table gathers the electrical power available on board depending on
the number of generator sets in use at the same.

Note :
1. Active gimballing system is planned to be rarely used for Greater Plutonio Project
2. In case of reel need of thrusters, ROV winch are not going to be used
3. In case of thrusters, J-Lay Tower Power requirement can be lowered
