6. Consider the word “prudent” or “prudence” (1:3,4), what do these words mean and why are they important?
(See “Key Words in Proverbs”)
7. Read Proverbs 1:10-19. What happens to those who don’t listen to the message of Proverbs?
8. Read Proverbs 1:20-33. Wisdom is desribed here as a woman. “The first nine chapters of Proverbs form a
unit in which the emphasis is on ”wisdom” and “folly”, personified as two women. (The Hebrew word for
wisdom is in the feminine gender.) In chapters 1,8 and 9 Wisdom calls to men and women to follow her and
enjoy salvation, wealth and life. In chapters 5,6, and 7, Folly calls to the same people and offers them
immediate satisfaction, but doesn’t warn them of tragic consequences of rejecting Wisdom: condemnation,
poverty and death. (Warren W. Wiersbe, Be Skillful)
From Proverbs 1:20-33, what is wisdom’s cry?
