Early Vision poems were unrealistic and overoptimistic toward the war.

Men felt honoured to be chosen for the sacrifice. They believed that fighting for their country and the ones at home would get rid of the bad. They also had the idea that dying would make them rich in stature.

The vocabulary is romantic and sometimes the form of the poem was a set style type For Example a sonnet. Romantic poets wrote about nature and mans relationship to it. For example sun, seasons, flowers, trees, and birds.

Both Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon have written early war poems; 1914 and To My Brother. Both Poems are romanticised as both the poets are yet to have realised the reality of war. For Example, The second to last line from To My brother by Siegfried Sassoon, But in the gloom I see your laurelld head and from the second stanza, second line of 1914 by Wilfred Owen, And summer blazed her glory out with Rome

1914 by Wilfred Owen is written as a sonnet. A sonnet is a disciplined poem of fourteen lines with a set rhyme pattern. Wilfred has used an extended metaphor throughout the poem comparing seasonal change to life Situations. Each season represents stages in life. Winter is death, spring is rebirth, summer is the fullest part of life and autumn is getting ready for death. For an example, the last line of this poem Of sowings for new spring, and blood for seed. This metaphor compares spring to rebirth and a new beginning in life and to carry out this they must sacrifice their lives.

To my brother written by Siegfried Sassoon is about how he feels about his dead brother and death. His reaction to his younger brothers death shows his attitude towards fighting in this war. A quote in two my brother, 'Your lot is with the ghosts of soldiers dead, and I am in the field where men must fight.' Siegfried Sassoon does not show sorrow over death here, preferring the idea of a noble soldier laying down his life for his country without complaint or worrying about consequences. The poem is written so the last words in the first and third line rhyme and the same with the second and fourth line. It is effective because it binds the poem together and emphasises the words and the connection. Both poets have the same attitude towards war. They both show no fear of dying in the war.

Siegfried Sassoons poem To My Brother is more personal then Wilfred Owens poem 1914. Sassoon addresses his brother in his poem and has used many personal nouns. For Example I, We, My, and Me.

Siegfried Sassoon does not write sonnets where as Wilfred Owen has written a few about war.

The lines in both poems run into each other giving it a musical tone. Often when recited it gives a calm feeling to the reader. The tone of the poem reflects the poets feelings towards the war.
