Courageous People
God calls us to be strong and courageous (Joshua 1:6). God has given us unique opportunities to encourage Christians of all ages to stand strong and fight for Him and their families. I urge you to see the new movie, Courageous released by our friends at Sherwood Ministries. Dr. Michael Catt, the pastor at Sherwood Baptist Church, is an old friend. He and his team of lay people and staff have blessed the world through other films, including Fireproof and Facing the Giants. I was privileged to see an early screening of this new movie, and I can guarantee you that it is well-done, heart-touching, Christ-centered, and family-supportive. Courageous releases in theaters, including Regal Hollywood 20, on Friday, September 30. The film revolves around four law enforcement officers who are called to protect and serve. Fatherhood is a greater challenge than anything they face on the streets. This story touches nerves and turns hearts. You laugh and are challenged, whether you are a man, woman, or young person. May we say, As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15). Please remember that solid, first-weekend support of any movie insures its run time in the theaters. Word-ofmouth helps. You do not want to miss this film. Speaking of being courageous, we welcome Dr. Paul Negrut to our pulpit this weekend. He will also be ministering with our Romanian ministry on Saturday and Sunday. Dr. Negrut successfully stood up against the communist regime in Romania, enduring repeated interrogations and constant threats to his life and that of his family. He has a PhD in theology and is founder/president of Emanuel University and Pastor of Emanuel Baptist Church in Oradea. He is internationally recognized as one of the key Christian leaders in all of Europe and has spoken widely at churches and conventions in the United States as well. He was knighted by the President of Romania and awarded the Torch of Freedom by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. We are greatly blessed to have him in the pulpit this weekend. I did not want you to miss the opportunity of hearing renowned people like Paul, just as we have been blessed in the past by John Stott, Adrian Rogers, E.V. Hill, and Stephen Olford. Be praying for our own local Romanian ministry and wonderful pastor, Dumitru Sabau. Be courageous enough to join us for Beach Baptism this Sunday afternoon if you have not yet followed in that step of obedience. We picture through immersion the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord. Be careful to do according to all the lawand not turn from it to the right or to the leftdo not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go (Joshua 1:7, 9). Lets adhere to The Resolution, featured in the movie Courageous: I will seek to honor God, be faithful to His church, obey His Word, and do His will. Remember that a resolution is just words unless it is accompanied by action.
Guest Reception
There is a guest reception in the Commons immediately following the Saturday night and Sunday morning service. Come and meet Pastor Hayes.
A native of Romania, Dr. Negrut currently serves as president of Emanuel University of Oradea and pastor of the Emanuel Baptist Church in Oradea. He has also served as clinical psychologist, lecturer, and university president during his long career. After graduating from the University of Bucharest with a degree in Psychology, he became interested in researching ideas that linked philosophy with theology and psychology. Because of his countrys political and ideological sphere at that time, he was not able to publish any research until after the events of 1989. He then received the Ph.D. in theology from Brunel University in London in 1994. Along with pastoral and teaching activities, Dr. Negrut has researched and published 5 books in Romania and a total of 44 articles in Romania and abroad. He has held several volunteer positions including president of the Romanian Evangelical Fellowship, adviser to the Romanian Baptist Union executive committee, Vice-President of Christian Solidarity International in Romania, moderator of the Theological Conference of International Evangelical Fellowship held in Baile Felix, Romania in 1994, member of the international board of the European Missionary Alliance, and Vice-President and President of the Romanian Baptist Union. In 1990, Dr. Negrut was awarded the Torch of Freedom by the British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, and in 2000 was knighted by the President of Romania with the Order of Faithful Service for the faithful preaching of the Word of God. God has blessed him with a wonderful family fully involved in Gods work at Emanuel University. He is married to Delia and they have two daughters, Ana Salome and Lois Paula. Besides being husband and father, Dr. Negrut is also a grandfather to Paul Gabriel who is now almost 6 years and to Evelina Delia who is 6 months old.

Sermon Notes
We easily become faint and lose heart. Like Peter walking on the water, once he looked away from Jesus and at the waves around him, he lost his focus and began to sink. These last few psalms (beginning with Psalm 146) all start and end with Praise the Lord. Lets focus on Him, not our trials! Sunday - Psalm 145:10-21 / Monday - Psalm 146:1-10 Tuesday - Psalm 147:1-11 / Wednesday - Psalm 147:12-20 Thursday - Psalm 148:1-14 / Friday - Psalm 149:1-9 Saturday - Psalm 150:1-8
