: Landslide, A Small Disaster Big Impact. : To inform : To inform to the audience about landslide, causes, effects and prevention of landslide. : Landslide is kind of disaster that may people may thought it just a small disaster, however they may not realize that it can give a big impact to environment.

Greeting Assalamualaikum w.b.t and a very good morning to our beloved lecturer, Madame Farrah Nur Wahidah and to all me fellow friends from class of FHND 3B and FHND 3C. Let me introduce myself first. My name is Nur Amirah Binti Abd Rahman and im from class FHND 3B. My topic for today is Landslide and I hope you can lend your ears for my speech today. Introduction What is landslide? Landslide or we can called it as landslip is a geological phenomenon which includes a wide range of ground movement, such as rock falls, deep failure of slopes and shallow debris flows, which can occur in offshore, coastal and onshore environments. Although the action of gravity is the primary driving force for a landslide to occur, there are other contributing factors affecting the original slope stability. Typically, pre-conditional factors build up specific sub-surface conditions that make the area or slope prone to failure, whereas the actual landslide often requires a trigger before being released. Preview 1. The types of landslide. 2. The causes of landslide. 3. The effects of landslide. Transition 1 I have started my speech with giving a simple briefing about what exactly is landslide. Now, I will continue my speech with explain more about landslide. Main point : Types of landslide. : 1. There is 4 types of landslide which there are is flow, avalanche, struzstorm, and slide. 2. There is two kind of flow which is debris flow and earth flow. Debris flow is slope material that becomes saturated with water. Earthflows are downslope, viscous flows of saturated fine-grained materials which move at any speed from slow to fast.

3. A debris avalanche is a type of slide characterized by the chaotic movement of rocks and debris mixed with water or ice (or both). 4. A sturzstorm is a rare, poorly understood type of landslide, typically with a long run-out. 5. Last types is slides. Whereas the different surface is sliding.

Just so you know, we have go through the types of landslides. Now, without wasting more time lets move on to the middle of my speech. The next point is : Main point : The causes of landslides. : 1. Landslides occur when the stability of a slope changes from a stable to an unstable condition. 2. Natural causes of landslides include groundwater (porewater) pressure acting to destabilize the slope, Loss or absence of vertical vegetative structure etc. 3.Human causes include deforestation, construction, cultivation, blasting and vibration from machinery or traffic.

Transition 3 As you can see now, i have explain to you about the causes of landslides which it it will be related to my next point. Thus i hope you are still interested to hear my speech for the next point. Main point : last but not least, the effects of landslides. : 1. Landslides can happen in different places and have different effects on people buildings, animals and landscape. 2. Landslides can effects and endanger homes and lives. 3. Landslides cause property damage, injury, and death and adversely affect a variety of resources. 4. The negative economic effects of landslides include the cost to repair structures, loss property value, medical cost of injury and indirect cost , such as lost. Water availability, quantity, and quality can be affedted by landslides. 5. Example of landslides effects is the latest one at Al-Taqwa Orphans House on 21 May 2011, which has cause 16 victims of death, while 9 survivors trapped safe.

Summary As a conclusion, we can try to prevent as a community. If you want to avoid being a landslide victim, the easiest thing to do is avoid building on steep slopes or close to edges of mountains. Dont build near drainage ways or natural erosion valleys. Dont forget! Also beware of steep or hummocky slopes. I hope you can use these tips in the future.
