LESSON 4 ASSURANCE OF SALVATION 4.1.1 Unit One: Primary Source of Assurance.

1 john 5:11-13 And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 4.1.2 Unit Two: Secondary Source of Assurance.

(b)1 john 1:9-10 If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (c)Psalm 19:7-14 7 The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the decrees of the Lord are sure, making wise the simple; 8 the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is clear, enlightening the eyes; 9 the fear of the Lord is pure, enduring for ever; the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey, and drippings of the honeycomb. 11 Moreover by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. 12 But who can detect their errors? Clear me from hidden faults. 13 Keep back your servant also from the insolent; do not let them have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression. 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

(d) 1 john 5:9-10 If we receive human testimony, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has testified to his Son. 10Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts. Those who do not believe in God have made him a liar by not believing in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. Rom 8:15-16 15 For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, Abba! Father! 16it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, (e) John 10:3-5 3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4When he has brought out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5They will not follow a stranger, but they will run from him because they do not know the voice of strangers. 1 john 4:1-3 Testing the Spirits 4Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. And this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming; and now it is already in the world. (g)1 john 2:15-17 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. The love of the Father is not in those who love the world; 16for all that is in the worldthe desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, the pride in richescomes not from the Father but from the world. 17And the world and its desire are passing away, but those who do the will of God live forever. (h) 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17 16 Rejoice always, 17pray without ceasing,

Section 2: Discussion Questions Q: A: Is it true that it is only when Jesus comes that we will know those who are His?

A:

Section 4: Assignment 1. When a believer sins, does it mean he is no longer Gods child and must say the sinners prayer again? 2. Does one have to be born-again as often as he backslides? 1 john 1:9 If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 3. Do you enjoy praying? 1 john 5:14-15 14 And this is the boldness we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have obtained the requests made of him. 4. Do you experience answered prayer? Mark 11:24 So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. John 16:24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.
