Activities
These activities are designed to encourage learners to participate in researching into their subject matter. Each element of this unit has an activity, which the learner can explore.

Electrical supplies and electronic signals Identify the types of electrical supply provided to different type of appliances in your home ( eg: TV , radio , Clock , electric torch ,washing machine , computer and etc .) Resistors and dc circuits / Capacitors Dissect an electronic product and observe the circuit. Identify the electronic components used (various type of capacitors , resistors , inductors, transistors, ICs and etc ) and their specifications .

Diodes Complete a book/ web search for the different types diodes. Produce a brief report on your findings.

Transistors Refer to the data sheets of BC109 and BC 557 transistors. Identify type (npn / pnp) , maximum collector current, base emitter voltage , dc current gain and pin configuration of those transistors. You can download datasheets from the internet. ( eg: http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datasheet/philips/BC107_108_109_4.pdf )

Power supplies Complete a book or web search for the different types of power supplies. Electrical cables Using tables published in the relevant wiring regulations (Institute of Electrical Engineers [IEE]) or other internationally acceptable regulations, identify the suitability, current ratings and sizes of cables for various applications. Applications: distribution and supply, domestic, industrial applications, the use of flexible leads

Unit 202 Activities

Isolation and protection in electrical circuits. Find four references (book or web) on the importance of isolation and protection in electrical circuits.

Circuits and wiring Investigate the wiring procedure of your home. Prepare a report with your observations.

Electrical circuit testing Refer IEE or other internationally recognised regulations for electrical circuit testing. Find about insulation resistance, polarity, continuity and Earth electrode resistance tests.

Electric motors Identify the applications of different types of motors. Observe the application of motors in your domestic / working environment.

Use of soldered connections Log onto http://www.circuitrework.com/guides/7-1-1.shtml . Prepare a short note for soldering , with the help of that site.

Integrated circuits Refer to the data sheets of LM741, NE 555 and 74AHC08 . Identify the pin configuration of each IC.
