Auxiliary Power Consumption in Thermal Power stations
All India average auxiliary power consumption by the thermal stations was
8.34% for 2009-10.
APC Minimum for Central sector utilities was 7.12% & Maximum for Private
IPPs 9.44%
26 Stations were having auxiliary power consumption below national
average of 8.34%

VFD for Condensate Extraction Pump (CEP) Motor
Benefits
Lower starting current
Reduced stress on pump and motor
Saving in energy 150 KW each unit.
Improvement Plant performance.
Improved efficiency of Equipments.
Reduction in Aux. Power.
Some of the initiatives taken
Slide
Vapour Absorption Machine (Air Conditioning System)
Reason
Reduction in steam consumption in APRDS system due to discontinued
use of HFO.
Existing vapor compression machines consume higher electricity.
Use CFC based refrigerants ( can damage ozone layer).
Benefits
The absorption system use steam as heat source with lithium bromide
as absorbent and water as refrigerant.
Noiseless and vibration less
Saving in energy 212 KW.
Slide
Some of the initiatives taken
epl acement of basket s
Reason for taking of project
Worn-out/choked heating elements
Improper seal clearances
Damaged sector plates and side sealing plates
Increased loading of ID fan and PA and FD fan.
Increase in auxiliary power consumption
Slide
Benefits achieved:
HPT module is available to meet the risk of major breakdown.
Improvement in Unit Heat Rate is 36 Kcal/kWh.
Reduction in Capital overhauling period by 5 days.
Avoided purchase of costly power by customer of DTPS.
Power purchase of RInfra-D (hence cost reduction to its consumers) by
`. 15.13 Cr. in FY10.
HPT Module Replacement
