Spaniard Alejandro Sanz (born Alejandro Snchez Pizarro) is the second son of Mara Pizarro Medina from Alcal de los Gazules and Jess Snchez Madero from Algeciras. Even when he began playing guitar at the age of seven and composing his first songs three years later, the young musician started attending management classes after moving from the neighborhood of Pueblo Nuevo to Moratalza. At the age of 16, Alejandro Sanz recorded Los Chulos Son Pa' Cuidarlos. However, his official debut, called Viviendo Deprisa, came in 1991 after signing up with Warner Music. Si Tu Me Miras followed in 1993, featuring contributions from Nacho Mao, Chris Cameron, and Paco de Lucia. With 3, recorded in Venice, Italy, and produced by Miguel Angel Arenas and Emanuele Ruffinengo, 1997's Mas, and 2000's El Alma Al Aire, the Spanish singer/songwriter achieved international topselling status

After moving to Moratalaz from the neighborhood of Pueblo Nuevo at age 16, he began attending management classes. At the same time, he recorded his first album. In 1991, Sanz released his official major label debut, Viviendo Deprisa, with Warner Brothers, becoming a well-known singer in Spain thanks to his hit Pisando fuerte. The album sold a million copies and made Sanz a star in his homeland. He released Si Tu Me Miras in 1993, with contributions from Nacho Mao, Chris Cameron, and Paco de Luca. In 1994 he releases Basico, a remix album of the best songs from the previous ones. In 1995, he recorded 3 in Venice, Italy. His next album, Ms (1997), launched him internationally, with famous singles such as Corazn parto and Amiga ma. It also became the best selling album of all time in Spain, with almost 3 million copies sold. The album stayed for 77 weeks on the top of many Spanish and Latin-American charts. He won the World Music Award for Best Selling Spanish Artist in 1999 in Montecarlo. In 2000 he released El Alma Al Aire which broke into the Billboard Hot 200 in the United States for the second time, as Ms had done before. In 2001 he recorded live in Miami a MTV Unplugged album. His 2003 album No Es Lo Mismo won a 2004 Grammy Award for best Latin Pop Album, after selling two million copies in two months following its release. The year 2004 saw also the release of his Greatest Hits album. This 3-CD album came with some previously unreleased songs. In 2005 he and Colombian singer Shakira became the first Latin duet to perform live at the MTV awards ceremony in Miami, with the performance of their hit La Tortura. La Tortura became one of the most popular Latin songs of 2005 and was a hit throughout Latin America, Europe and even in America. He has also recorded the single "Una Noche" with the Irish band The Corrs in 2000 as well as "Me Ire", and with Lena in 2005 the song "T Corazn".
