About the Centre The Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India established a Sub-DIC under BTIS program at North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong in November 1999. This Bioinformatics Centre, in the last one decade has grown to become the nodal centre for N.E. Bioinformatics Network (NEBInet) in the region. The Centres facilities include Apple High Performance Computing Facility, networked computers with Leased Line Internet Connectivity (4 Mbps), Accelrys Gene 2.5, Matlab 7.0, iNquiry Bioinformatics cluster modules, SPSS and other application softwares and good training facilities. Objectives To generate awareness and provide hands-on training related to Bioinformatics. Contents Bioinformatics Database resources for wetbench scientists Navigating sequenced genomes Sequence similarity searches Finding regulatory elements in DNA sequences Multiple Sequence Alignment and inferring phylogenetic trees from sequence data Protein structure, classification and prediction Resource persons Prof. Indira Ghosh, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
