Summary
As per the new citizenship module, we the students of School Of Business, Alliance University, visited two NGOs in Bangalore namely SRMAB (Shree Ramana Maharishi Academy for the Blind) and RK (Ramakrishna) Mission, Shivanahalli. The visit was organised by YFS -Youth for Seva ( a project of Hindu Seva Pratishthana) along with Alliance University, Bangalore, with the motive to provide students with an exposure to rural India and CSR ( Corporate Social Responsibility) Activities. Now, when the Government of India is talking about inclusive growth, companies have started expanding their business in rural markets. Hence as the future employees and managers it becomes essential for us to be aware of rural markets and its working culture.

On the other hand, CSR activities have been made compulsory for all companies by the government, as it is the duty of every individual to make an effort for the upliftment of ones country. I am grateful for this opportunity provided to me and the experience, learning and satisfaction that I gained. And this report consist a brief introduction about the NGOs I visited and their work and about my learnings and experience there.

Shree Ramana Maharishi Academy for the Blind

(SRMAB) is the humble creation of a group of visionaries. SRMAB was founded in 1969 with the motto Service to Humanity is service to God by Sri. T V Srinivasan, Late Sri. Thirumurthy and friends. While seeking spiritual enlightenment, they were inspired by the simplicity and thoughtfulness of the great guru Sri Ramana Maharishi and motivated to take social action. Over the past 4 decades of involvement in service, SRMAB has conceived its strategy based on data collected. In a developing country like India where persons with disabilities constitute about 5.21% of the total population of the country, the challenges faced are acute and innumerable. 40% of the countrys population lives below poverty line, with only 2% of disabled children having access to education and approximately 80% of disabled population being unemployed. One out of every five persons below the poverty line is disabled. Wide spread ignorance, lack of awareness, nutrition, unhygienic conditions, pre-natal and post natal care, accidents, lack of proper health facilities and many more reasons cause disabilities, especially among the poor. The existing physical, social and attitudinal barriers increase the challenges faced by persons with disabilities. Considering all these factors, the Academy designs programs to address and redress the need of persons with disabilities within the community. SRMAB believes that: "All people with disabilities can live with self-respect and dignity" They work in the development in below areas: Institution Based Rehabilitation Community Based Rehabilitation Rural Development Centre Vocational Training Horticulture Dance Human Resource Development

MY EXPERINECE In SRMAB We visited this place on 27th August in the morning at 10o clock. The students of the school were busy with their exams. It was very fascinating to see the students writing their exams on MS excel, latter we were informed by the students instructor that the students are capable of using computers , making presentations and reports. We were also shown how students were trained on computer devices using charts and custom made softwares. We saw students learning with help of Braille system which was a new experience us. But the highlight of the whole visit was the dance training given to the students there. The dance teacher itself is blind and so are the students but the teacher still manages to teach the students very efficiently. The teacher shows the step and at the same time the student touches the hand and feet of the teacher to feel and understand the step and tries to imitate the same. We saw a dance sequence performed by two students which was beautifully choreographed and perfectly coordinated. Seeing this taught us the simplest thing in life that nothing is impossible if you have a will to do Apart from that we also saw how the children engage themselves in production of packages which are used for transferring chickens/ chicks to the shops. The children operated the complex machines without any difficulty and without getting hurt, which was again a remarkable achievement on their part.

MY EXPERINECE In RK Mission We visited this place on 24th of September. There we got the opportunity of meeting the swami jee. He was a learned man with rich knowledge and charming personality. He told us about the inner peace and strength, how to beat the stress at workplace, how to find what we want to do in our professional life and which career to choose. His teachings were very useful for us. And the experience of interacting with him was very beneficial. Apart from the above, we also had brief interaction with the children of the school. We played with them and served food to them. The experience was very beautiful and satisfying. We saw and learned how children were happy and energised and were making use of whatever limited resources they had available with them.
